Oxfam has found that the richest 0.1% of the world’s population are heavily invested in disaster preparedness, recovery and reconstruction – a market that is projected to grow from $70bn to $92bn a year by 2029.

This gives the planet’s wealthiest and most powerful people a “double dividend” from the climate crisis and an incentive to delay or disrupt action to solve the problem.

It's been fraud, theft, and lies every fucking time.  Be a good goddamn citizen and he skeptical of the money for once before parroting "the major milestone" or whatever.  It'll be fraud this time, too.  And the next.

Man I don't wanna see another single "achievement" from Sam Altman's Fraud Factory, Inc, until AFTER it's been cleared as "not openai spying on, and stealing from, the scientists we convinced to use our product."

Because there hasn't been a single one so far that isn't theft, appropriation, and credit stealing.  Stop announcing their press releases as scientific achievement.  Me putting a recording device in a lab and then paying a bunch of little James Watson wannabes twenty million dollars go hammer the damn keyboard day and night isn't a fucking scientific achievement.  It is FRAUD.

This. Don't let them tell you that the end-goal is to write as many lines of code per day as possible. The end goal is you, your enjoyment of the craft and the connection to other people that you make through it. Improve yourself and help others to do the same.

for whoever needs to hear this: you're not alone. i'm not vibecoding any of the software i write. i'm writing it by hand, but i've leveled up my emacs with eglot/lsp. i'm modernizing my stacks and use languages with excellent compilers. i think about how to do more with less. i'm trying to combine the best human-written libraries and modules and assemble them with minimal boilerplate. i enjoy reading your manuals and references. i believe in robust, secure, human-written software.

For now, I will no longer be uploading to the #Debian NEW queue.

And yes, I will now go outside and do something nice instead of trying to argue on mailing lists about #LLM use in #FOSS. Maybe do the same. The weather is great outside. :)

the Great Fuckoffening is upon us!

Shares so needed ❤️‍🩹 75 families face famine on top of other exceptionally-urgent needs: surgeries, medical tests, pharmacy expenses, precious scraps of shelter.

The ask isn’t big, one-off help but SMALL monthly giving with dignity. 29/32 pledges: https://chuffed.org/project/hope-emergency-fund

i wrote down my current thoughts on AI, first draft, titled "AI is Fake People": https://minute.social/index.html

what do you think?

Strudel has adopted a post-ai humane policy for live coding development:

All community members should be treated with respect and kindness. We welcome contributors to the community who are ready to follow this policy as well as our code of conduct.

Principles
* We wish to protect the humanity of our communities and projects, to support the motivation and well-being of all of its contributors and users.
* To this end, contributors and other users of our projects should not have to engage with LLM-generated code and text as part of their community work.
* We recognise that LLM-based scraping and generation of (A)GPL code shared by ourselves and others is of questionable legality. For example, under many juristictions, LLM-generated work does not have a copyright holder and can therefore not be licensed under the (A)GPL.
* A contributor's personal use of LLMs and related technology is their own business, whether for research, analysis, bug discovery or other assistive technology, so long as the output is not included in any contributions to our projects.

We can’t fight these fires one by one (of course we must right now). The long term solution:

Strip the @EUCommission of its legislative power and give it to the EU Parliament where it belongs. No idea how you’d even start that process, though. If this overlaps your area of expertise, please feel free to pipe up or to take the initiative (with no illusions that this will happen overnight).

(The EU Parliament is currently a toy parliament. The only parliament in the world that cannot legislate.)

Joelle, a trans woman, needed urgent chemotherapy for an aggressive but highly treatable cancer. Initially placed in the women's ward, the NHS moved her out of the ward when her trans status became clear. She was returned to ER for 16 days while waiting for a single bed cancer ward to become available. Joelle was in intense agony with incorrect pain management and obviously no chemotherapy. Her desperate requests to be treated in any ward - male, female, it didn't matter - were denied. Ultimately the tumor was 98 cm by the time she got treatment.

She died in agony, utterly betrayed by the NHS and the British government.

Please donate to the campaign seeking justice for Joelle.

Please write to your MP.

lmao "cancel culture"

THE INTERNET

PLEASE SHARE. FAMINE IS A VERB. So do something to interrupt it!!! Give to help 75 families eat!! Make it a monthly couple of dollars to sustain it!!! Then agitate meaningfully!!!! Do something new and bold!!!!

We're at 28/32 monthly pledges: https://chuffed.org/project/hope-emergency-fund

So this is horrific. The DoJ is offering funding to "support foundational research on gender dysphoria, its treatment, and the perpetration of violence and violent behavior."

They are trying to gin up data to label trans people as terrorists.
