The new Mastodon UI is bad.

The left sidebar takes too much space, and what is the point with the right sidebar with no content? Also, the colors are bad.

BIG downgrade!

Seriously, can we go one day without another slop editor? This is getting stupid.

"claude wrote all the code, I’m not a rust developer" No shit sherlock. Just because you can (prompt), doesn't mean you should 😉

Also, no disrespect to any (real) Rust developers out there, but everytime I hear made in Rust I automatically think slop, I'm sorry 🙂

Thinking about changing the release model in @friction

Our current model does not work, ~10 months between RCs. That's not good.

Also our last RC (3) had several bugs, and we still don't have a RC4. New users download RC3.

Got a couple of new features? Just do a new release. Fixed a couple of bugs? Just do a new release.

Something like YEAR.MONTH or YEAR.MONTH.DAY

I don't know, but something needs to change.

Open for suggestions.

Added color wheel to @friction today.

This has been requested a lot. It will waste some space, but I assume most users will approve(?)

Will probably enter main tomorrow(ish).

Finally, after two days of cursing I got VideoToolbox (Hardware Decoding) and ProRes 12bit working in #pixelcore on macOS 🙂

...btw, the green stuff was a bug on Linux (something, something mesa)

Fixed now.

... also implemented support for adding more "cubes"

Implemented a color cube in #pixelcore since I'm not the biggest fan of regular 2D histograms etc, a cube in 3D space feels more logical to me.

DaVinci Resolve 21.1: "Advanced scripting now requires DaVinci Resolve Studio" 😑

I see the @linuxfoundation has also infected the Academy Software Foundation with AI slop. Good job 👍

I bought my Mac Mini M4 in march 2025, I can sell it on the used market and get an ~100€ profit. Very tempting... Maybe just buy an old Mini 2014 for nothing and run macOS 12 forever.

And no, Linux is not an option, every OS sucks now.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@macrumors/117111998264452820

macOS 27, aka how much "AI" can we cram into the system.

So v27 is more or less a transparency slider and "AI" stuff.

I'm still on macOS 15 (wish I could downgrade even more). I hope they at least make the "AI" stuff optional, as in a way to disable it.

I HATE Ubuntu! Why did you install a brand new kernel and also upgraded the NVIDIA driver to something my card does not support???

LTS = shit

This was a dedicated machine for testing NVIDIA stuff for Friction.

... After 3 days on Windows 11 I'm finally done with the port. Most of the time was used to workaround Qt as I wanted a integrated titlebar, something they (Qt) implemented in 6.9, but not really (only works properly on macOS). So, instead of using hackish/broken workarounds provided by Qt I ended up using the C++ Windows API to get everything working as it should... meh.

Anyway, also had to do some changes to the UI to better fit on smaller screens.

macOS is next.

... 5 hours of pain and I finally got a pixelcore build working on Windows (11), some tweaks will need to be done, but not that much.

Using Qt 6.10 to get some nice titlebar integration (wip, I did break the taskbar integration in the process somehow, probably a missing flag or something).

... and some more UI tweaks, good enough for now. Time to finish the rest (presets, some more export options etc).

... and for even more fun, PixelCore is also a module, so I can replace the project monitor in my prototype NLE with PixelCore. Kind of cool.

Been playing around with the UI for a couple of days now.

Damn, the RAW pixel rabbit hole was a bit different than I'm used to, but a fun learning experience.

After downloading and testing any RAW app I could find (that runs on Ubuntu) and downloading a bunch of odd and broken test images from pixls.us I'm getting closer and closer to the light.

I only used the other apps to see how they worked (or not), I did not look at any code etc, that would ruin the "fun".

Will probably have a public release (aka the boring part) done by the end of the month.

Never been a fan of raw editors, they are usually too complicated, slow and have a messy UI/UX.

I'm not a photo nerd, I just want to adjust some sliders until it looks "good" and export a TIFF.

After "using" Darktable on Friday I decided to repurpose code from a different project I'm working on.

I now have a fast, simple and clean tool that works on my crappy laptop.

The tech stack is Qt/QML, OIIO, OCIO.

Thanks to Petrikas (Saulala) for the inspiration. And of course Troy for #AgX
