This is such a brutal thing. Yes job loss is not nice even if they get some money to exit. The whole IT sector is now a race to the bottom until AI causes a massive job and stock market crash and then nobody will have a job, pensions will be burned out in stock market scams and meanwhile, some of these AI tech bros will have made billions in profits. Well done, Microsoft and every other batshit crazy AI company.
Microsoft offers 60,000 employees a voluntary exit 😱 The AI affecting is real in IT sector. This is company’s efforts to cut costs amid AI adoption, per Bloomberg. Personnel on select teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at a vice president level and below will be eligible. This reflects ~27% of Microsoft's total workforce https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2026/10/26/introducing-a-voluntary-exit-offer/
The day it makes sense to post this picture is the day you cannot post it
Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech. Revenue per worker is rising for the Mag 7 but is flat for the S&P 493. And there are still no signs of AI boosting productivity growth https://www.apollo.com/wealth/insights-news/insights/daily-spark/no-signs-of-ai-payoff-outside-the-tech-sector i can’t wait to see how this all goes down between wars, inflation, job losses and AI. Tiny percentage of humans always have unleashed hell on the rest of us out of greed
more php security stuff just for laughs from around the web...
'Roughly 70%' of internet is powered by PHP and BBC asked cyber security expert who is living under rock. Lmao 🤣 BBC please get someone from mastodon and they will explain it. Hahah ;) Joke asides, yes it is real https://www.bbc.com/news/live/ckgel5xp2xv9t I spent almost midnight to rebuild all images and push patches. More like just I had to change tag to get fresh stuff and validate it. I am not sure how long one can keep dealing with this security nonsense and stress associated with it.

Don’t ignore these php upgrades. Apply them asap
The PHP security team is giving advance notice of an upcoming security release scheduled for Wed, 21 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC, addresses two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSSv4 9.2.
All PHP users are encouraged to prepare so they can upgrade immediately tomorrow. Should details of the vulnerabilities become public, or should evidence of active exploitation appear we will release sooner.
Full details, affected versions, and the fixed versions will be published with the release.
here's some info about the giant php bug dropping tomorrow:

hopefully mastodon doesnt absolutely destroy the video quality, but it appears to be unauth php rce.
which means every firewall on the planet thats not patched thats just php under the hood and has its management interfaces exposed is potentially a target
Oh my this is bad. The private keys of eight eMudhra intermediate CA certificates have been compromised. They chain to roots trusted by the Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple and Chrome root programs and by many downstream trust stores.

I am now using the latest version of LibreOffice Calc and it feels like such an upgrade for me. I was using an older version installed via APT (v6.4.7) for so long, but then I noticed the latest version is on Snaps (yeah, I know). So I tried it and now the experience is suddenly so much smoother. Calc is my personal accouting app to keep tab on expenses and savings. It is not very high tech but it gets work done. I mostly keep tab on bill payments and avoid debt traps.

Google’s AI pinned another man’s sex crime on a doctor, and a German court says Google must answer for it
Two German courts, in Munich and Aachen, have ruled that Google is liable for false claims in its AI Overviews and AI Mode, treating them as its own words.
The simple observation:
The #curl project is getting DoS‘ed by security researchers.
No mal intent, but driven by stock/work market evaluations.
Example: Aisle has shown its value by the curl CVEs claimed and was now bought by Cohere, presumably a good deal for both companies.
Economically reasonable behaviour for both. The FOSS projects are the roadkill, though.
All reporters have similar motivations, down to individuals improving their personal market value.
A Saturday email that makes my chores easier. I want to extend this to my fellow maintainers in these testing times; I'm not doing curl by myself.
Hi Daniel,
With all the nonsense going on related to AI slop bug reporting and PRs, just looking in from the outside is exhausting, I imagine it must be even worse for you and the other contributors. I wanted to say thank you for all the time and energy you put into cURL, the tool really is a joy to use and never lets me down.
Lots of account take overs today resulting in posts with malicious links tagging dozens of accounts. gird your passwords, my friends. turn on 2fa. don't click on sketchy links.

Just so you know. Linus who is adopting AI tools. Here is how it is going right now. Linus Torvalds let Claude Code fix the Linux page cache. Then reviewers found a race https://thenewstack.io/torvalds-claude-code-kernel/
