Strava, but for doing nothing.
Personal trivia: I helped him, over the phone, recover his notes when his hard drive crashed, in my first tech job, doing tech support for Broderbund software. That voice is unmistakable.

What exactly is the point of boosting on #pixelfed? I can boost all I want from my pixelfed account @Morgan@pixey.org, but anyone on a pixelfed server (?) with the pixelfed app (?) will only see posts from the people they follow, correct? Is the value for people on /other/ activitypub platforms, like mastodon, who follow my pixelfed user?
Also, I have verified that boosts on the Android pixelfed app are NOOPs, in my case. If I browse to the server, login, I can successfully boost pixelfed posts - the boost count increments, and I see the boosts in my mastodon feed, from this, my mastodon account. Boosting on the pixelfed android app does nothing.
This was fascinating!
An insight; there are no races.

Save Safe Streets and Roads for All Funding
The #Senate has a chance to protect funding for #bike lanes and safer roads. They need to hear from you.
This week, the Senate will be voting on a short-term extension of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Critically, this proposed extension strips out funding for a key program created in the IIJA: the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
#SS4A has made $5 billion over five years directly available to local communities who want to plan for and build safer roads for people walking, #biking, taking transit, and driving. Thanks to its success as a program, the BUILD American 250 Act, the next transportation reauthorization bill proposed by the House, includes continuing SS4A.
Tell your senators: the continuing resolution must include continued funding for SS4A. Without it, communities will not be able to access critical funding to build safer roads.

I try to balance boosting posts about horrible things and beautiful things. It's very hard to keep that balance. Part of me wants to only post beautiful things, and let the community boost horror, around me. It feels dishonest, and also there is that little dopamine rush from boosting something horrible and thinking, "I'm doing something positive!" But maybe I'm just bringing everyone's mental health down.
Anyway.

"The people of #NearOceania carry a genetic legacy that stretches back almost to the beginning of humanity’s expansion across the globe.
This legacy comes, at least partly, from some of the earliest settlers to reach the Pacific more than 42,000 years ago. Their ancestors remained largely isolated for millennia, preserving a record of ancient migrations, population bottlenecks, and encounters with now-extinct #human relatives. A new study has now uncovered that record in unprecedented detail, revealing the richest catalog yet of #Denisovan DNA and evidence that the ancestors of present-day Oceanians interbred with at least three distinct Denisovan-like groups."

Maybe if we didn't have the Internet we wouldn't have to read about Trump.
@aarbrk you might find some of the documents in the collection (link above) interesting. I know the general outline of the story; how the Spanish land grants, later Mexican grants were slowly but surely whittled away by lawyers from the US East, but reading (what I could) of Antonio Maria Peralta's own words about what he was experiencing is wrenching. He and his brothers were bled dry.
I georeferenced a map, from the #Peralta Family Manuscripts held the #Oakland History Center. It's here in 300dpi, zoom-able. (46MB) If you want the qgz and related files for QGIS, I'm happy to share them.

This is the 1859 Plat of the Northern Part of the Rancho San Antonio, AKA one of the first maps of what's now #Emeryville, #Berkeley and Oakland. There is not much detail within its boundaries, but the homes of Victor Castro and Domingo and Vicente Peralta are where we'd expect. (Note, Vicente's home was near modern Vicente Way.) The road crossings at the border, and across #LakeMerritt all match modern roads. I was able to find enough common points on our modern city/county border to #georeference it; most hadn't changed.

#WoutVanAert wins #ParisRoubaix, beating #TadejPogacar, the #WorldChampion in a sprint! Every major figure had a mechanical issue, and had to fight back from it. Amazing race, 2km faster average speed than any edition before, and it's been raced since 1896. Wout dedicated his victory to teammate Michael Goolaerts, who died during the 2018 edition of cardiac arrest.
