This is UNBELIEVABLY damning on Jared Kushner but don't lose sight about what this says about Rubio, Ratcliffe and the rest of Trump's senior diplomatic and intel team. https://www.vanityfair.com/story/jared-kushner-hacked-phone-secret-negotiations
Today I am grateful for all the un(der)paid and un(der)seen labor that sprinted to address today's double PHP security emergency, especially @ondrej. I've added https://www.patreon.com/cw/oerdnj to my monthly patreon giving and maybe you should too.
A little off-topic for this account, but just wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to all the Wikimedia SREs, Incident Coordinators and everyone else involved in keeping Wikipedia up and running during this PHP vulnerability[0].
Happy PHP fire drill to all who celebrate!
Patches are out so fast on this one. It is such a relief.
If you are using Ondrej Sury's Debian or Ubuntu PHP repositories, he has pushed the patched versions of PHP now! UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!
@drwho We need a code forge full of poisoned code. Anybody who visits it goes on a block list we all share.
Brewster Kahle of the Internet Archive makes the case for web preservation in The Atlantic. 🌐
In The Internet Needs A Memory, Kahle explains why blocking the Wayback Machine won’t stop AI. It will only make the public record harder to preserve.
@jamesvasile @jplebreton Good argument. I would also call it democratization of programming. Once steep learning curve is superseded by easy to generate LLM code. People who would not be able to develop code are creating apps that... well, somehow work. I actually feel positive about this part - creativity. I don't feel good about best practices being left out (UI/UX, accessibility, responsivness etc.).
I am at https://horizonsconference.org/ today and tomorrow. It is a fascinating moment to be in psychedelics. EO 14401 (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/DCPD-202600269/pdf/DCPD-202600269.pdf) has changed the conversation in hopeful ways. If you are here and see me passing, please do say hi.
Using EFF’s Rayhunter open-source software, @WIRED found evidence suggesting a cell-site simulator was deployed near the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, though who operated it and for what purpose remain unknown. You can use Rayhunter, too. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/meet-rayhunter-new-open-source-tool-eff-detect-cellular-spying
holy shit I got a free NordVPN subscription and their macOS client installs an endpoint kernel extension that just hangs around after an uninstall. There was a constant com.nordvpn.macos.Shield process.
I had to boot into recovery and disable SIP to get rid of it. Part of that is on macOS that it allows to install extensions but systemextensionsctl can't uninstall them.
But still, this is malware-grade behavior; especially given how sketch they are in general.

Still on a mission to tidy up my #electronics workspace drawers - my tools are pretty well organised, now it's down to parts. Jumper wire storage has long been a bugbear for me, but I finally though to look up what other people have done for inspiration.
Here's my first take on the popular solution, the jumper wire toast rack - with a little handle to lift it out of the drawer and onto my workspace. This can be easily adapted for any length of wire and any height for volume. #3DPrinting #maker
This is the funniest thing I've seen today, possibly ever
I'm getting fed up with people having LLMs create issues and the resulting verbosity being 20-50 times that of a regular issue report and not in a useful verbose way but in a waste of my ever shrinking time way. #opensourcemaintainer
Chalk one up for the haterz. In Codex, loading skills is not deterministic! I have a skill that has always loaded. Today codex told me it didn't exist. When I showed the SKILL.md in the right dir, it admitted it looked in the wrong dir for skills. How is this non-deterministic? Who at OpenAI designed this and thought it was even remotely ok? Oh right, an llm designed it. 🤡
Without the skill, the llm made a bunch of wrong assumptions and trashed my open issues storage. Fortunately git fixed it.
After decades of LaTeX, I switched to typst and the livin' is easy. Pipelines yield consistent, good-looking, text-based documents without the agita. We get modern font support, easy inherited packages, a real coding layer instead of macro-on-macro-on-macro madness. It's the thing I kept threatening to write but knew I never would. There's even an overleaf-type service at typst.app. It's text-based goodness with none of the struggle.
OTS's typst infra is available at https://code.librehq.com/ots/ots-doctools/-/tree/main/typst

Big thanks to all the HOPE people for once again raising bar way past awesome. This will forever be my favorite conference. And big big appreciation to all the kind people that were nice to my kid, who braved it alone today on a borrowed badge.
