Hihi! I just found a usecase for a 3rd kind of clock besides a Frozen Clock and a System Clock.... A HistoricClock....
Initialized with a diff to the System clock so you can use a website like it is x days/hours/decades behind... or ahead...
But then it's be a future clock....
Anyone got a good name for a clock that can do both?
Is this the right time to promote PHP-Usergroups?
Looks like a lot of people are suddenly interested in PHP and there are actually a lot of meetings in different towns across the globe that have just this single one topic: PHP
A place to gain knowledge and get to know other nerds!
Looking for a place near you? Check out https://php.ug - and if you don't find one near you, head over to phpc.chat and look for the #usergroup channel. We'll find a way!
Did I get that correctly? One guy in the UK made sure that PHP is the laughing stock today?
Thank you! Whoever you are! May all your pints turn sour the moment you touch them!
Can I just push out a HUGE
THANK YOU
to @thephpf for setting up and supporting a Security Team that helps with handling CVEs in PHP!
Thank you! Thank you ! Thank you!
And of course also Thank you to everyone that helps with fixing security issues behind the curtains!
If you are earning money with PHP and are affected by todays CVE mitigation release -
Now would be the best time to start supporting the PHP Foundation!
So. No leap seconds any more.
Instead of keeping UT1 and GMT at max one second off each other that offset can now become up to one hour.
Which means... No more leap seconds for the forseeable future.
And someone else can then tackle the issue with that leap-hour in .... about 150,000 years....
Whenever one is complaining about Deutsche Bahn again:
British Airways just cancelled a flight less than 24 hours prior to boarding. And then rebooking onto a flight 36 hours later....
Sure!
They also pay for shifting the booked trip by 36 hours, aren't they? And also moving all the meetings that were scheduled?
And why? Because right now:
$dt = new DateTimeImmutable('2026-12-01 10:00:00');
$formatter = new IntlDateFormatter(
'en_US',
IntlDateFormatter::FULL,
IntlDateFormatter::FULL,
'America/Edmonton'
);
echo $formatter->format($dt);
results in
Tuesday, December 1, 2026 at 3:00:00 AM Mountain Standard Time
While it should be "4:00:00 AM Alberta Time" instead of "3:00:00 AM Mountain Standard Time"
Setting up PHP with the current timezone-database proves to be less easy than I thought....
🙈
Having
php -i | grep -i olson
report the same as
php -i | grep -i tzdata
is a challenge.
But I am getting there!
/cc @shochdoerfer: Yes! Edge-case - I know....
TIL that - acording to wikipedia - Bluetooth is actually named after Harald Bluetooth, danish and norwegian king of the 8th century.... 😱
And the Bluetooth logo is actually the runes for H and B combined....
If you don't believe me: Check out wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Bluetooth
The intl-extension is a great library for PHP.
BUT!
Running php 8.4.24RC1 compiled on Jul 17 2026 is still using the 2024b Olson DB in Intl!
So back to the drawing-board to compile my PHP with the latest ICU version....
Because ... why a) use the same as the system and b) stay up to date....
😡
Sorry... /rant
We are down to -19
That means that the depth of the waterway for ships is 1,40m ...
At Kaub in the scenic Middle Rhine Valley the gauge is at 10. Which means that the waterway is 1,30m deep.
This is not just a hot summer.
Wow. I grew up near a city directly at the river rhine.
It has an official gauge for the river rhine.
The lowest known value of that gauge was 2cm recorded in 2018.
Today the official value is -5cm....
🤯
This is *not* just a hot summer!
🤔 And it looks like github, gitlab *and* codeberg all have the same issue with GPG-keys with changed subkeys....
I can not upload a public key with modified subkeys without having to remove the key first....
There is no way to actually *update* an existing primary key....
Like... via WKD. Or KeyServers. Or ... a pasted Key....
Just to make that very clear! I am *not* stuggling with getting my new keys onto my Yubikey.
I am struggling with being able to enter a fucking password on a prompt! For an hour now!
GnuPG is such an awesome piece of Free Software.
And like all Free Software I have encountered so far is completely unusable for anything beyond the easy stuff as it requires at least 3 PhDs and 60 years of experience in finding the right flag to allow to actually use it....
The latest "improvements" in WebSearch are also not helpful in figuring out why I can't enter a passphrase when prompted for it....
😡
Scots don't mess about when it comes to parking charges.

WSocial on the german wikipedia:
This article is sceduled for deletion. Reason: "yesterday opened, today a wikipedia-article. Some shell company in a private flat somewhere in stockholm. This can't be reputable. Evidently irrelevant"
The article then also explains some.of the financing ideas... Ads, micropayments for messages... But all later.
And possibly just a fork of bluesky... 🤷
Digging into timezone issues in legacy applications is .... interesting....
And the remainder of the process was similarily ... interesting....
"The picture you upload needs to be at least 50kb" - OK, so instead of focusing on the relevant stuff, let's add some margin.
"The picture uploaded needs to be at least 600x790 pixels" - add some more margin...
"Thanks! This is what we have stored" - presenting the original picture without the added margin..... 🤦
🤷
I applied for an ETA for the UK (Thanks #Brexit) and what can I say....
As a web-developer I do have to assume that the form was made by the best developers the UK was able to get ... for a crate of beer....
I mean... Who needs helpful error-messages, right?
But Brexit for sure also means getting rid of everything un-british! Who needs more than 128 characters anyhow!
🤦

The message reads: "Your answer cannot contain the symbols < > ^ [ ] { } or ;"
The faulty answer is "Grävenwiesbach"
Yes! There is not a single one of the mentioned symbols in that answer.](https://media.phpc.social/media_attachments/files/116/747/735/274/268/770/original/b602f711eee0df01.png)
