I'm fun!

Because I make a disappointed noise, see.

Whenever I'm cold, I ask my boyfriend if it means I'm dying and he says no followed by "don't sound so sad about it."

Show me a hero, and I will show you a broken system

Many interactions on mastodon are like:

Me: Wow, my microwaved popcorn was too hot and I burnt my tongue!

Responder A: You could maybe put the popcorn inside a bucket made of ice to quickly cool it.

Me: I don't want to do that and I also don't have any buckets made of ice.

Responder B: A bucket of ice can be made by putting water between an inner form and an outer form and freezing it.

Me: Ok, but I don't want to do that and it would also take many hours to freeze the water. I am eating popcorn right now.

Responder C: Liquid nitrogen will freeze water in as little as a few seconds and can be purchased at many welding-gas suppliers

On the same week the DCCC released its first anti-transgender ad, popular Democratic politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not mince words.

When asked about anti-trans Democrats, she called them "shameful," "wrong," and decried them for "scaring so easily."

I don't actually mind it that much otherwise. It's just for some reason harder to make myself read posts.

Brey, it is CLEARLY Ole Slicey Boi time. Our ruling classes, ALL of them, have forgotten that the social contract is a two way deal and the only solution for that is the national razor.

I can't tell if I'm just exhausted or if there is something about the new .social UI that makes it harder to parse the feed. It looks more cluttered for some reason, which is exacerbated by the surrounding blank space.

so many things nowadays don't have documentation, they just point you at a discord server. this is because nobody makes or does anything anymore, they just chat on the internet with eachother. in 10 years there wont actually even be software anymore, just discord groups where people can chat about what software might be like if it existed

Advice for female-presenting persons: if a male doctor asks if you've been under stress lately: SAY NO. Tell him life is great. Don't budge. Make the fucker actually figure out what's wrong.

I don't know a single woman who hasn't gotten the stress brush-off, only to get a real diagnosis later.

It's bullshit. Sometimes lying to your doctor is the right thing to do.

In 1969, Kurt Vonnegut offered this sharp and still remarkably timely critique of American attitudes toward poverty through the voice of Howard W. Campbell Jr. in Slaughterhouse-Five.

The belief that anyone can become wealthy encourages people experiencing poverty to blame themselves rather than question the economic and social structures that shape their circumstances. #books

Jack saw the discomfort on Jessica's face and softened his tone. "I don't want you to think I blame you because you weren't there or some shit. You? You're a civilian. My relationship to you is clearly defined. I keep you safe. That's the job. The only part that really matters in the end."

"But we stepped in it," he added, "Big time! And none of us got the whole picture. That's the CIA's real job, to keep enough secret no one puts it together while the perpetrators are still alive."

"Deal with it," Jessica repeated.

"Right?" Jack said, "Like, how?! I thought I was numb! You get numb enough in that job, you stop caring, they make you a general. Chief of staff! You gotta understand. Some of us were there for 20 years! We didn't care anymore. We just wanted it over."

"While the generals were upstairs telling the president victory was three weeks away, we were up to our eyeballs in gore. Green-on-blue attacks. Guys we trained! And we weren't allowed to leave!"

"That's what the CIA had you do?" Jessica asked.

"Fuck, no!" Jack laughed, "The CIA was chickenshit! They were running heroin for President Ghani. And by them, I mean us. Made a lot of business contacts that way, if you know what I mean. But they were running Zero Units and doing war crimes. That's what they were doing!"

"But they sent you down there."

"The story got kicked up to somebody important and they kicked it back down again. 'Deal with it.' That was the mission."

"The story got out, see," Jack said, "And the brass were pissed. It wasn't the first weird thing they heard! Like I said, these stories go all the way back. Vietnam, Korea, both world wars. Fucking George Washington saw an angel who gave him a vision of the world he would create!"

"The official policy was to ignore it. Why? Well, investigations never turned up anything. Can you imagine the number of guys we would have had chasing bigfoot and how that would play in the press?"

Like, people talk about Boomers and lead but Americans in general have gotten ridiculously complacent and stupid in the past 20 years.

As I recall, Epstein suggested politicians go after trans children specifically because undermining their rights and safety undermines it for all children. It's kind of, erm, interesting, to see the bipartisan agreement there.

"Sick how?" he said.

Jessica shook her head. "I don't want to talk about it."

"You never do."

"I'm being honest about the creature, at least?"

"Is it dangerous?"

Jessica blinked. "What? No? I can't imagine so. It's dead. Or dreaming, as is often the case. It should be happy to see us? Who knows? We might help it out. Depending on what it's waiting for..." She sipped her coffee. "Although I doubt it likes the cold any more than I do."
