People who vibe code with AIs swear that they check the code, that they know what they are doing and that they verify tests and deployments.

Maybe at first. But in my experience, every single one eventually and invariably become the Simpsons drinking bird that keeps pressing Y on the keyboard, nothing more, no checking, no analysis, no mind, just pressing a button.

The saddest thing is that some are aware of this and they try to justify it to you. Up until it breaks.

IcarusLives made a #doom map about the Trump made algae infested reflecting pool in Washington DC. Its called "Grim reflection".

At least this moment has been immortalized in a DOOM map somewhat lol.

I know that it might be true that this "opportunity" could be a trap, trying to paint me as a fool or as sort of "what not to do". Eh, I'll take the bait I guess.

So I'd appreciate a lot if anyone can give me tools, good arguments against GenAI and LLMs.

I'm probably going to divide the arguments (Economics, social, education, ecology, etc).

I have some from lots of articles and reading here in the fediverse, but I'd appreciate more info and good ideas about it.

Thanks in advance!

So, there's a sort of summer camp in my Uni about #gamedev with "help" of AI tools (ugh).

The main prof asked my help about mentoring. I said that I would only help with things not AI related. I don't, and won't use AI. He said OK.

There are some speakers that will present all for AI. The prof asked me if I want to give one. I told him bluntly "only if its about against genAI". He agreed!

Edit: finally did it! Check it out here: (its in Spanish BTW) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HUF35KLKAP0

O find especially revelaig the change on Flash from action script 2 to 3.

Many artists and designers that I knew "got" AS2. For a programming POV, it was a syntax and organisational mess. But Artists could work on it and more than that, they thrived.

Then the change to AS3 happened. Programmers felt a lot more comfy in AS3, but something happened and Artists/designers stopped under ng yp

An interesting thing I noticed on certain programming tools is that a very specific set of them tend to attract designers and artists.

Some examples are:
* Adobe Director (Lingo)
* Adobe flash (specifically before action script 3)
* Twine
* Bitsy
* HyperCard
* Inform 7
* Processing
* Logo
* HTML and CSS (no JS or very little)
* etc. (Do you know more?)

What I find interesting is that usually these tools get abandoned for others or deprecated altogether. And it's usually the programmers fault.

Dark thoughts.

If I had a death note in my hands. Not only th current world would be very diffeerent, it would be full of so, so much poetical justice deaths, it would be astounding and baffling to the whole world.

The biggest consequence here is GLIB (and thus GObject). I know that the GNOME GLib project is not interested in porting GLib to WASM at all.

So my solutions are:

1. Hack it so it work on WASM. I'm not sure about this one, I know it can be done, but I'm not convinced on it, also due to licensing it can become a problem for thing like console development for example.

2. Write my own replacement for GLIB. That would be insane. But. I'm not using all GLib, and I'm avoiding GObject stuff as well.

Here's a cool ting I managed to do for #gamedev in #vala with #sdl3

Here's a screenshot of a simple SDL3 hello world. I know it doesn't look like much but the cool thing is that I managed to this from Vala, emitting C code, and then compiling with emcc.

Now, there are caveats:

1. Used "profile=libc" so it strips glib.h from the code.
2. Used -DSDL_MAIN_USE_CALLBACKS when compiling, the SDL3 callback structure. This allows me to avoid empcripten binding (you could create one tho)

So are we going backwards in computing performance in general?

Less GPUs, less RAM, less HDD capacity. And probably less CPU will come next as well. Is this a permanent fixture, or will it end when the AI bubble pops?

Anyway, I guess its time to think about, really think about, performance computing techniques from the 90s and start scaling back everything?

Honestly, we should have done this a while long to be fair, but I guess that events like whats happening will force everyone's hand.

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@icculus/115821614068025963

Wanted to mention that the #vala vapi bindings to #sdl3 have also been updated for 3.4.0!

https://codeberg.org/edwood-grant/sdl3-vapi

Also wanted to say some things about the bindings:

* I added a preliminary SDL3 Mixer vapi. Mind you, there are no examples for it, and you'd need to use the current master version of SDL to make it work.

* I also made the SDL vapis POSIX compatible if you want to use the vala POSIX/LIBC profile.

* I have added some docstrings to the vapis. Lots of work left though.

#gamedev

About the #Valve steam hardware. Yeah its cool and all, but its almost assured it wont ever ship to my country, so its totally non-news to me.

You can probably import it somehow, but likely at a much higher price and it would likely not be justifiable.

It can still be easily replaceable with a good, cheaper mini pc but just as powerful if I wanted. So its not the end of the world.

The controller and vr thingy would be harder to replace though. But oh well.

I've been thinking about #llm #genai being used in discussions

And I'm starting to conclude that if you have to use an #LLM to "quote" something to anyone as "proof", or as an part of an "argument", it means that your positions are so brittle, so flimsy, so unpopular, that you could not find another human to articulate your claim.

Not even yourself!

So you had to force a machine, that cannot think, to construct something that no human will actually say.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry if I made said something stupid, or fell for an obvious ploy when replying to someone, because I might have took it at face value when it was supposed to be a joke or a sarcastic post or some sort of bait, or something like that.

I'm usually pretty dense on most stuff, on and offline. Particularly jokes and sarcasm.

I remember people making jokes and sarcasm that keep flying over my head, and I nitice because most people seem to "get it" and I'm just looking like a deer in headlights.

I usually try to brush it away, but I can't deny I feel ashamed for it.

This doubly happens online, because text lacks a lot of nuance from talking. So when I respond to someone I end up faikign to notice if its sarcasm or a joke.

And finally, for editing, they don't need much, so it was either #kdenlive or #davinci_resolve for heavy work.

The hardest sell has always been Photoshop. Creatives do have a high bar to clear here, and I believe that they need a lot of help when switching software. It can be done, but its tough.

I think that the best way to help them is to switch apps first, then OS later. The apps are really the core of everything.

The OS, if it feels familiar and clicks at the start, is good enough.

Before even trying to do the full OSswitch, I was helping them replace proprietary apps with #foss apps.

All of them are creative so this si one of the hardest folk to convert o IMO. Office is easy, they were using #LibreOffice #OnlyOffice way before everything else.

And you'd expect #gimp here for drawing, but Its been always a hard sell. #krita on the other hand, was smooth for all fo them. I even bought them a course to learn.

For vector based images, #inkscape was good enough.

Linux mint was because they were really excited to see something similar to #windowsxp . To be fair, Windows XP is a pretty solid OS all things considered, so getting to that was cool.

Elementary was because of previous #macos X experience. I use elementary myself, as I'm a sponsor, but not because of mac os nostalgia, i know elementary folk don't tend to like the comparison, but hey its a point it appear from time to time.

Another important thing actually was the use of previous #foss apps.

In other news, I managed to convince my wife, my sister and brother -in-law to install #Linux in their machines due to the #windows 10 thing, instead of buying a computer (there's no money for that!).

Got #elementaryOS in one and #linuxmint in the other two. There were kinda blown away that both OSes were essentially the same, just different desktops.

I let them play around both in live USB before choosing.

Installations were according to their previous sensibilities in their favorites OSes.

One of those odd satisfying things I've received from time to time recently in my email are those kinds of mails saying: "You haven't use this account for a while, we are going to delete everything about it".

And they wag their finger at you like "tsk tsk, you will lose this awesome opportunity!"

But instead, I'm like in my head: "Oh yes please! It's so much easier this way instead of trying to do who knows what to delete it manually. Actually, can you do it now?".
