I am tired of worthless fuckin' people writing AI disclosures like "I'm just a single person and I have other stuff to do. Without AI, I could never have completed a project of this scale."
You haven't completed it. You've drawn out a few ideas and then told the computer to fill in the blanks with stolen material muddled up to try and obscure the source.
suggesting that people give up their ability to learn a skill in order to instead rent it out from an unauditable, unknowable, unquestionable third party that has disempowered people who already have that skill
is not fucking democracy
that is the opposite of democracy
that is creating a central, unquestionable authority that is not beholden to you.
also? "democratizing skills"? You do not have a *right* to the skills of other people. So even if this authoritarian style enclosure wasn't already making a mockery of the term, the fact that it's literally built on the stolen labor of the individuals who it is disempowering (by removing their ability to gain pay for their work) IS NOT DEMOCRACY.

WARNING:
This contains stuff so much worse than you could imagine. Not just racism, but pretty much all the 'isms'. There is also rape, incest and child molestation casually joked about by some of these "defenders of women and children".
Genuinely, very very unpleasant people. Hard to believe what they were comfortable to say in privacy.
LLMs are inherently unethical for the same reason that billionaires are inherently unethical: you don't earn that much money/data, you take it.
What is it with progress bars being wiggly lines recently?
There's a dust-up over an AI ad from Bookshop.org. But they didn't use AI; Meta's ad platform automatically created an AI "variation" of the original, non-AI content.
I went to disable this crap in our Shiraki Press ad account, and got served a popup *demanding a reason why*.
Fuck Meta for this. Consent matters. We've just pulled all paid advertising from their platforms.
The more I think about, the more I despise LLMs being used in Free and Open Source software.
We build things to solve problems for each other and for fun. How dehumanizing it is to have a machine just spit out weighted text, stolen without attribution, to something that is supposed to be collaborative.
In retrospect maybe we shouldn't have handed everything to the creators of PayPal and a "hotness ranking" website.
And I think it's beautiful.

No AI apparently, how refreshing.
"I imagine this dream is common to all academics:
Looking up at the stars in wonderment, or enjoying a complex puzzle game, or being inspired by an encouraging teacher, and dreaming that one day an unfeeling corporate robot will burn a rainforest to compile a list of 700 highly obscure barely-readable facts that *might* be true that nobody can understand as part of a marketing gimmick to raise hype for an IPO."

"Overall, windfarms and hydropower plants with about 9 gigawatts of capacity were paid to not generate on Wednesday..enough to power more than 8m typical households.
Instead, the grid operator was forced to pay for a string of gas and biomass plants to fire up and bought more electricity imports from Europe via high-voltage subsea power cables."
A ludicrous situation.
NB. The National Grid was privatised in 1990 by Thatcher.
Racist party, led by racists, campaigning on a platform of "more racism", supported by racists, is "chock full of racists who say and do racist things"

@dougbarry
Yeah I'm totally ok with a Hackaweek (less hacks) if it means no AI slop covered (to reach a threshold of at least a "hack" each day)
@hackaday
If you're using AI to make content you're saving time and money but you're making shitty content. If you can't see the shittyness of the content, it's all the more reason you shouldn't be doing it.

So like, Linux goes AI slop. This is a big problem for me. I can't easily stop using Linux or stop updating Linux. A plan for getting off of Linux is going to take me months or years.
Firefox goes AI slop. This is a big problem for me. I can't easily stop using or updating Firefox. A plan for getting off of Firefox is going to take me months or years.
ScummVM goes AI slop. Do you have *any idea* how easy it would be for me to never use ScummVM for the rest of my life? Geez, it's out.
Good morning Mastodon ☕
True, people at Artcraft have also released main items of Microsoft Office: https://getartcraft.com/apps
Not an AI-fanman but in the entire discussion missing a rather big argument: apps written in Rust are cross-OS compatible - so both Adobe and M$ can be run on a Linux machine.
We do have bugs but our bugs were hand-crafted by humans.
