Lemme see how succinct I can make this.

In relation to autistic trauma, I learned to dissociate (muting signals from my body to my brain).

I’m now attempting to reintegrate (improving interoception), and as a result I’m noticing / experiencing significant pain, due probably to decades of neglect and several significant accidents (blunt force including head trauma).

In my ideal world, I would be able to treat (rehabilitate?) the pain away, but that seems… unrealistic. Decades too late.

An option is medication (cymbalta), which seems to operate in a similar way to dissociation.

I guess I’m wondering if people have thoughts on all of this. Seems odd to learn to overcome dissociation only to chemically dissociate.

Story Time 🧵

""Once, very long ago, Time fell in love with Fate. This, as you might imagine, proved problematic. Their romance disrupted the flow of time. It tangled the strings of fortune into knots. The Stars watched from the heavens nervously, worrying what might occur. What might happen to the days and nights were Time to suffer a broken heart? What catastrophes might result if the same fate awaited Fate itself?

Today at #HerneBay the mighty #KAF
outnumbered the fash. Our count put them at somewhere between 70-120, whereas we were 200-250

The Kent Online FB account says the same

Dear #ActuallyAutistic siblings.

Firstly, I ask that you repost this if it strikes a chord to any degree (or even if it doesn’t, please help a spectrum brother out).

Secondly, if you have thoughts, resources, or experience with this, please reply.

I’ve been sitting with how icky (literally) I have felt since doing this recruitment exercise.

I was given two questions, where I have to sit in my home, answering as if I’m in front of someone, with no one in front of me, just my computer, recording me, with my camera output on the screen.

Two chances per question to answer, but that almost made it worse – if I fuck up the first shot, what if I fuck up the second?

No direct feedback from another person.

And a deep and abiding sense that if I do fuck up, a word, an expression, a sentence, I am not with a fellow imperfect human being allowing me to regroup. To rephrase. To truly restart.

Just take that second shot and hope it doesn’t happen again.

I have spent 55+ years interpreting the responses of those around me (admittedly not always successfully), but like most (all?) maskers, I do better with someone human, ND or not, in front of me, and certainly not feeling like I’m fucking talking to the mirror.

Am I wrong to feel this is anti-spectrum (I honestly feel it’s anti-human, but that’s a *whole* other level). Am I just over-worrying about a simple “cog in the recruitment wheel we all need to get past”.

Is there any data on this sort of thing at all?

£384 raised for Tavistock foodbank from the sale of my calendars, thank so much to everyone that bought one. Thanks to Steve for posting them all in the post boxes in his wheelchair!

Felt a little fed up with Bluesky recently, and I've been reading @pluralistic 's excellent "Enshittification", so I thought I might as well show up here instead. I'll be posting (but mostly just replying) about computer science and cybersecurity (there's a reason I signed up on defcon.social innit), recent events (in my home country of Hungary or elsewhere), and the occasional astronomy or gaming post, or, god forbid, a meme.

Had a rough month, burn-out wise, but been emerging out of the brainfog hole for the last week or so.My imagination came online again about midnight a few nights ago, and I found myself hyperfocused on this silly game idea, until about 4AM... Anyway, I managed not to waste the sleepless night completely, and as the BF has been pretty low since, I've managed to get a basic mockup put together with PyGame. I hand-drew the graphics with a marker, scanned in, and cleaned them up in GIMP. #AutisticBurnout #Hyperfocus #PyGame

I love that!

The urge to just add a throne wish list of Swedish vegan Ostbågar (cheese doodles) to buy up all of the supplies now that apparently they are going to be discontinued because of lack of demand, which is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

It just proves that vegans just can't have nice things.

The Swedish cheese doodles are the best things they have ever made. There is nothing like them and the fact that they are going to be removed is the biggest heartbreak of this year.

Tonight's home made #vegan dinner, made by my step they. It's like eating it, at home. #veganFood #vegandinner

I spent yesterday morning at the @wellingboroughecogroup Repair Cafe. It was an odd morning, fewer people through the door, but many of them had brought in 2 or 3 items to be repaired, so it was still a busy morning. I got a hug from my Womble friend who I had sharpened 4 pairs of secateurs for last month, she was very happy. 😊

Here are our totals for the morning
Items Fixed 16
Not Fixed 4
Advice Given 4
In Progress 4

Love it when I need something practical and Hubby makes it "immediately" on his 3D printer. I got a few boxes with drop down lids to keep "garage shoes and boots" in - but they had small holes in the lids to open the flaps instead of handles. I wanted them fully enclosed to keep the spiders, etc. away. Hubby was ON IT. Prototype handle made within a couple of hours, I approved, and now he's making the rest of them. #3DPrinting #BestHusbandInTheWorld

@HarriettMB not so nice as your recent shots, but it's lovely to see these guys back.

Swans are back at our local lake! It's the same young pair that were there in the spring - they definitely know me, they came over and were asking for food as soon as they arrived. Other swans usually stay aloof and at a distance from me. These ones have grown a lot since the spring when they still had some of their baby plumage. The "police tape" is due to the lake being classed for fishing due to blue green algae. #swans #waterbirds
