Have you had your face squashed lately? 🙌🏾

Don't respect your heroes for being perfect. Respect them for doing heroic things despite being imperfect, fallible humans

Also istg these pilots are running this plane like crazy taxi.. aren't there speed limits on the tarmac?

Weird flying into a major city and seeing an endless sprawl of humanity spreading from horizon to horizon, knowing there are tens of millions of people living their lives while you'll never see or interact with beyond just "I was in your town for a work event"

If you're running #NixOS, have you tried Omniflake? I've seen it pop up here and there, but I'm kinda surprised it isn't more popular.

And if you are using it, are you getting a version mismatch between nixpkgs and home-manager? I can't figure out how to fix this lol

i should have long ago started a folder of bookmarks to hand out links here when people get up on a high horse about european racial innocence (including british), but i did not

here are two that would be in it. spoiler: nothing people pin on the US is "uniquely" american & it is folly to compartmentalize the US and western europe in this regard

Random #SelfHosting #Linux question: I have a USB drive attached to my PC. It's mounted, but the only time I read from/write to it is at midnight when I make a backup. Still, I can hear it spinning up and down throughout the day. Is there a way to monitor and see which processes access the drive or its mount point?

Last time I used #Duplicati, it randomly corrupted my multi-year backup with no way of restoring it. Granted that was several years ago, but it broke my trust in them completely. Now that they're reframing themselves around #AI, I'd encourage anyone considering them to run very VERY fast in the other direction. Use something like Restic instead - it's been rock solid for me.

Is it normal for an IT tech company to require admin access to the host OS if I just want thermal paste replaced? :blobcatgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands:

There, I degaussed your monitor for you

If you're craving some #AI / #LLM schadenfreude, Starbucks Korea implodes after the marketing team uses AI to accidentally insult the entire country by mocking a tragedy

I'm just gonna rip the bandaid off. Does Private Internet Access (#PIA) support any known far-right or conservative parties? I have a one year subscription with them atm

Ngl #Authentik is a pain in the ass to set up, but it's nice having just one login system for all my different services (especially since I keep adding more :ablobcatbongo: )

How do you manage it when your partner/spouse/S.O. keeps bringing up topics that trigger your depression, when you've already asked them several times not to and explained why?

Remember to squimsh your friends' faces (with their consent, ofc)

The only file the user should ever have to open would be a single config file. Everything else is implementation details tucked into separate folders (but still available for those who want to tinker)
