Ok now we’re getting somewhere

Cry me a river of recipe blogger tears while I play a violin the size of a hydrogen atom. Do you hear yourself??? “The problem is that converting a recipe into easy-to-follow instructions in Apple’s own format also strips it of its context” ISN’T IT WONDERFUL

HomeView is not a good name, so I hope Gurman got punked with it

Has anybody ever considered that between “vibe-coding slop” and “hand-engraving all the 1s and 0s into the hard disk yourself” there might exist some sort of moderate position whereby someone uses LLMs to write code and than manually checks whether it is good?

I bet Tim Cook’s calculus on the lawsuit was just, “Which choice will get OpenAI to incinerate money faster, letting them make Jony Ive-designed hardware or making them pay lawyers?” and now that all the design is done, the answer just flipped

I beg people who are bemoaning the death of the web to do literally anything on the web

Personally I will just keep making websites that don’t require the largesse of giant technology companies to survive

I’m back over here. Self-hosting seems like a waste of money at this point

Oh apparently they’re only turning it off for newly sold watches, anyway. Haha. What a ridiculously stupid situation

I am not happy about health features of my watch being disabled in software because of business crap that has nothing to do with me

You know what I really wish, though? I wish auto-posting via RSS feeds were a built-in @Mastodon feature. I would volunteer unlimited time to help design it.

Unfortunately, the only networks it actually matters to me to cross-post to don’t allow it, so I’m not super duper incentivized to spend much energy fixing this. Might just switch back to https://mastofeed.org where I can make the posts look nice and they go up fairly instantly.

I’m afraid Micro.blog cross-posting via RSS is frequently only happening if I go in there and manually kick the feed, which more or less defeats the purpose. Anybody else have this issue and have remedies for it?

“It’s romantic sailing the high seas with your mates. It’s what the internet used to feel like, and it’s what it was always supposed to feel like. The ocean is big. Many vessels can ply its waters with plenty of room to roam.” https://taalumot.space/writing/pirate-ship-social-media

The reasons are so many that frankly I don’t understand why it’s controversial. Let’s consider only the best-case scenario, like Beeper Mini, where there is ostensible e2ee messaging taking place between two devices thanks to spoofed credentials. Who the hell knows what kind of evil screen-reading monsters are living on the device at the other end if it’s not running the operating system I, that user’s correspondent, have entrusted with protecting my communications?

I don’t think any non-Apple device should be allowed to send a blue bubble message, sorry

It’s going well. The key insight I had is that the Squarespace CMS concept of a “section” allows you to redefine the grid in any vertical segment of full-width space. As we all know, the y axis is the scourge of the web, and this is where all Squarespace Fluid Engine layout problems stem from. You can’t let Squarespace push you around by defining a “section” editorially. If you want your layout to work everywhere, you have to confine EVERY horizontal arrangement of blocks into its own section.

Might f around and rebuild more pages of my website with my new much sturdier structure

RSS 👏 STILL 👏 EXISTS 👏 AND 👏 WORKS 👏 PERFECTLY 👏 ACTUALLY 👏 IT’S 👏 BETTER 👏 THAN 👏 GOOGLE 👏 READER 👏 EVER 👏 WAS 👏 STOP 👏 SAYING 👏 THAT 👏

I am having trouble fathoming the Mac Studio not being in this first wave of M3 updates
