Still waiting for the day when 🫠 does not completely represent me.

I remain convinced that nearly every company writing software is trying to do too much, too fast, often with too few people. Obviously the LLM era has only made it worse.

Lotta smug European comments on that ICE-agent-gets-shot-by-homeowner news story, including someone who (apparently with a straight face) says that if there were an ICE equivalent in Europe "a lot more of them would be getting hunted down and shot" and just a quick question, how's the fucking forcing-migrant-boats-away-from-safe-harbor-so-they-drown thing going? Or the charging-migrants-who-survive-as-criminal-invaders thing?

Or even the beating-and-maiming-student-protesters thing?

We came from you. We are the same whether you want that to be true or not. We have a bigger gun culture here because your governments and rulers sent many of our predecessors over specifically to subdue and genocide an entire continent's worth of people in the name of your commerce and colonies so fuck right off with the "we're so civilized in Europe, the Civilization Center of the universe" crap. America is an extension of European history. It never ended. We are you. Just because you've managed over time to (somewhat) outsource that bleeding-edge violence to your nation-states' colonial projects, like the US, like South Africa, like Australia, (and more recently, to the multinational corporations who still murder for your resources) doesn't mean you ever stopped being violently racist.

So go fight this fight in your own backyard, where it started. Destroying the centuries-long legacy of European genocidal colonization is a task that belongs to all of us, not just the predictably hideous outgrowth of that conquest, the vile white supremacist project that is the United States. This hellish legacy belongs to all of us and it's up to all of us to end it.

The rest the results are negatives - no benefit to just keep letting the LLM bashing away at it over time, no benefit to being coordinated by a more capable model.

But the central result is just a basic sleight of hand: look! We can shard models over tiny hardware! However we never test if the models can hack, set up, and coordinate sharded models on tiny hardware! Instead our only actual result is that a large local model can set up a small local model on big hardware. Therefore, assuming magic, botnet swarms incoming TODAY.

Bitch I KNEW I shoulda bet on the head of lettuce...

I'm really in to aternative tech, from what OS I use to what appliances I seek. I mean, look at my feed, I'm excited over a NOS toaster from the 70s and having a blast with a fucking Sony Mavica and floppy disks. I'm unlikely to be impressed by your brand new, mainstream, spyware phone. Money and status symbols don't impress me. I'm not going to find what you do for a living interesting unless it's something actually beneficial to society like artist, or researcher, etc.

Anyone in Portland Oregon want to get to know each other? I have pretty much one face to face friend, and that's a bit much to put on one person. I need to spread that out, broaden my social circle.

I haven't used #GetFediHired yet, but hoping that yall can help some!

I do web development, and have been working with #WordPress professionally for nearly two decades. I value accessibility and snappy performance. I also have experience in training and teaching web development.

Got any PHP or Javascript projects? A Laravel site that needs new features? Someone who loves the intricacies of CSS and HTML? I am actively available and have projects to share as examples!

This community has given me a ton, and I'm hopeful there are folks out there with the right connections

Look. The argument is very simple, I'll explain.

1. Consciousness is mysterious; neuroscientists don't quite understand how it works
2. LLMs are mysterious; LLM vendors don't quite understand how they work
3. Therefore, LLMs are consciousness.

In logic we call this an "extremely correct syllogism"

Yes, the above is a post about flying cars.

Oh god, I think I figured out who the “AI-bro” type is.

You know the guy in tech circles who is just smart/experienced enough to have some creative ideas but not smart/experienced enough to go the next step and assess why his ideas are bad, and then sit seething when it’s pointed out to them?

“AI-bro” is the next guy who’s too shy to express his half baked idea.

This is their one lucky break when the stupid idea their friend would normally get shut down for was finally put to action, and boy, is there a whole lot of them.

i dont talk about it much, but i was born with a rare condition where i have a much higher density of utils in my body than average. what this means is that, through no choice of my own, my happiness both feels better and is worth more than everyone else’s. i’m not sure whether this is because i’m smarter, or better-looking, or maybe the universe just likes me more...whatever the case, this is why (in purely economic terms) my personal well-being ought to be a national, even global, priority

Is anyone in or near Berlin looking for a rigged Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with cage, D-TAP battery, and SSD?

Any video creators out there looking for an upgrade maybe?

I'm looking to sell mine as I don't do much studio video stuff these days.

(boosts welcome)

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 6: "How do you feel about people reading your works without buying a personal copy?"

I love libraries. I love sharing books, and I love having books shared with me. You do not need to buy a personal copy. And sometimes you need to read and have no money. I allow that too.

#WritersCoffeeClub 16: How do you feel about people reading your works without buying a personal copy?

Well, I distribute my books to libraries and offer free community copies on itch, so I obviously feel okay with it!

I'd rather folk got the books through me or their library rather than some awful pirate site that had their AI scrape my books, but I have no control over that and try not to fret.

I hope that, if you read my book for free and enjoyed it, you leave a review somewhere!
