Update from Dr Langbroek -
"Based on new orbital elements for both ICEYE-X36 and KOSMOS 2612, there seems to have been a close approach early on the 18th, possibly around 1:35 UTC, to within a few 100 m or possibly (much) closer. There are indications in the orbital elements for KOSMOS 2612 that it made one or more small maneuvers around that time.
No indications that ICEYE-X36 was affected/disturbed in its orbit. Affect on functionality - only users can tell us."
Heading to Brussels again to talk about digital autonomy. Hoping to share what I learned from various European government IT projects. And this is much needed since a lot of discourse tends to be quite removed from practice: https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/eu-civil-society-need-progress-digital-autonomy/
Totalitarians, theocrats, and the promoters of artificial superintelligence share a common motivation: the subordination of humans to a manufactured construct.
I wrote about the rise of Anti-Humanism, why it’s happening, and what we need to do about it.

The Russian satellite COSMOS 2612 was has been hovering near the U.S. ICEYE-X36 imaging satellite in recent weeks. It was reported to be within a few km from ICEYE-X36 yesterday, at ~550 km altitude.
COSMOS 2612 was launched on 16 Apr 2026.
ICEYE satellites also provides imagery to Ukraine’s military.

According to this simulation at Orbital Radar, the Russian military satellite COSMOS 2612 will come within 21 m of the U.S. imaging satellite ICEYE-X36 at 10:26 UTC tomorrow 18 October 2026.
Two hundred and fifty scientists and representatives from leading research institutions around the world celebrated the inauguration of the Large-Sized Telescope (LST) sub-array at the #CTAO-North site at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Spain: https://www.ctao.org/news/the-large-sized-telescope-sub-array-is-inaugurated-on-ctao-north/ - the completion of the four telescopes marks a significant milestone for the global astrophysics community and represents a crucial step toward the full scientific operation of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO).

Meta messing with Indivisible just as No Kings begins. SpaceX shutting down Starlink right when the Russians launch a deadly attack on Ukraine. Meta censoring Lula and promoting Bolsonaro days before the Brazilian election.
This is the future that big tech has given us. This is where we are today...
Mark Zuckerberg blocked the Indivisible Team from their accounts today. That tells you how dangerous it is to use any Meta platform. Boost what you can on all the channels!
They fear democracy! #NoKings #Indivisible #VoteEarly
Great turnout, energy and creativity in Northern Virginia and DC.

If you have never been to Washington, and you wonder what the Kennedy Center was before Trump turned it into a political battleground, this is what it was used for:
There's a new spam wave, messages with lots of names and a link. Here's what to do:
1. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN THE SPAM
2. Click ⋯ on the spam post, then "report", and then follow the instructions. If you are given an option to forward the report anonymously, use it, because forwarded reports help cut off the spam at source.
3. Spam seems to be via account takeovers. To prevent this, use a unique password and consider using "two factor authentication" (more info at https://fedi.tips/using-two-factor-authentication-2fa-on-mastodon )

At about 1:30 PM ET today, Meta froze and removed the main No Kings Coalition account on Instagram, without notice.
As of 3:03 PM, the account has been (partially) restored.

According to calculations by Dr Marco Langbroek, the COSMOS 2612 (aka KOSMOS 2612) and ICEYE-X36 are already with 1-2 km of each other.
By early morning tomorrow, KOSMOS 2612 might approach ICEYE-X36 to within a few meters.
"That is very worrisome. This RPO (Rendezvous and Proximity Operation) is completely non-consensual.
So I wonder and worry whether we are perhaps watching a first actual on-orbit ASAT attack in the making here."
Or perhaps a jamming exercise?

The ICEYE X series of satellites are X-band SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) microsatellites, designed by the Finnish ICEYE startup company.
ICEYE-X36 is owned by ICEYE USA.
At least four Russian military satellites were stalking ICEYE-X36 in May of this year.
ICEYE also provides imagery to Ukraine’s military.

A festive mood at the No Kings rally near the Lincoln Memorial, as folks started gathering at the site in the morning.
Lots of speeches are on tap all day.
