Me: Mom is on a rant about the neighbors using our car and having the battery go down. My immediate response: Well maybe they're mistaken. I always have to defend the other party. It's a fucking reflex, and then she is all, I can't talk to you like an adult, you're never on my side. Me: In the high pitched voice I use for confrontations all everything. But why? Also me: I wish I could just listen and not argue back. I automatically argue back because when she's fucking drunk or something my brain immediately goes to, what the fuck mode. She wants me to just agree with everything she says and I can't do that, because my brain is in the immediate let's get defensive at everything.
