Nov 1, 2026, 4:02 PM🐹 We should all use UTC
🦝 I mean yeah, that'd make everything a lot -
🐹 not just on the internet, I mean in real life
🦝
🐹 anyway it's midnight, time for dinner

Y'know what'd be great, if we just went to bed earlier and woke up earlier, if we agreed to do that As A Society, instead of trying to alter TIME ITSELF

🐹 I only use the Unix epoch timestamp, anyway I'll meet you at 1794340800

or y'know what, we could even work shorter hours when there's LESS DAY TO WORK IN???
Nov 1, 2026, 4:12 PM@ifixcoinops the more north y'are the worse that'd be...- Dan Fixes Coin-Opsifixcoinops@retro.socialNov 1, 2026, 4:13 PM
@len people in the north should work less because there's less day to work in, electric light was a mistake
- Nov 1, 2026, 4:15 PM@ifixcoinops I was thinking the other way around, really, I'd hate to have to work more because there's 24 hours of sunlight
- Dan Fixes Coin-Opsifixcoinops@retro.socialNov 1, 2026, 4:17 PM
@len depends on your job I guess
Nov 1, 2026, 8:26 PM@ifixcoinops so every school, shop, and workplace decides when and how to change their hours throughout the year, and instead of one problem you have like seventy nine of them

@phooky yeah but better ones
Nov 1, 2026, 8:44 PM@phooky @ifixcoinops I propose a return to a system of unequal hours, where sunrise is always the start of the first hour of day/end of the 12th hour of night, and sunset the end of the 12th hour of day/start of the first hour of night.
This does complicate scheduling things with anyone more than a hundred miles or so away, so for that we'd need some other system that is decoupled from the sun, something where it is always the same "time" everywhere. Huh. Maybe Swatch Internet/.beat Time was a good idea after all.

@RJL20 @ifixcoinops hot take: UTC is just swatch .beats with a conversion factor
Steven Hoefertroublewithwords@wandering.shopNov 1, 2026, 5:19 PM@ifixcoinops I like UTC for a lot of things, but in much of the world no one would know what day it was.
