Highly recommend this week’s installment of This Week in Security by @zackwhittaker.
Zach’s writing is always excellent and clear, but this week’s onslaught of developments has led to a particularly entertaining and punchy read. 😁

Don’t let a CEO tell you what’s right for you.
“You’re a loser.”
“RAM is stupid.”
You’re your own person, and rando CEO does not have your interests at heart — only their own.

Beautiful thread ❤️
Okay so a bit late to the ballgame here but I just replaced my entire PHP install with the number 4.
Am I doing this right?

White people, I’m assigning you homework. Please read this guide on how to help #BlackMastodon flourish. It’s your responsibility!
Ideally, don’t just read it, but start taking some small actions in response. But start with a close read and an openness to being uncomfortable. 👍

Got open source or OpenFatigue?
“We publish a high-resolution screenshot of our source code every quarter. Pull requests may be submitted by fax.”
😂 😂 😂
Today I learned a lot about #passkeys, part of which is that there is a lot of misinformation about passkeys going around.
Mostly I learned that passkeys are VULNERABLE to misrepresentation because so few people actually understand how they work. 😂
But the video I just boosted was really helpful, as were the voluminous replies in various threads in my feeds today.
I am feeling confident enough in my understanding now to try creating my first one 😬 in a password manager, of course.
Thanks, fedi, for teaching me!
#Podcast software question:
I like #PocketCasts for #iOS. But it’s free (so I assume my data is being harvested somehow) and also owned by Auttomatic (ugh, cancelled).
Is there an alternative podcast player app that you like?
Ideally, uses the same conceptual model (a feed of new episodes, then I decide which ones to download), no data harvesting, privacy-conscious. Doesn’t have to be free or FOSS but obviously that’s a bonus. 👍

Be aware that in #British #English, this phenomenon is known as #Trumporrhoea
Balcony #solar kits at cost.

Questions are an opportunity for dialog, connection, and relationship building — not mere information exchange — especially as the questioner is inherently making themself vulnerable to do the asking. It’s important enough that they are going out on a limb, taking that risk to reach out to you.
When asked a question, respond in kind and with kindness. ❤️
Portland General Electric residential customers get a 1.3% rate reduction — while large industrial customers (cough data centers cough) get a 29.7% rate increase.

Overly pleased that there was not a single firework to be heard or seen at this remote location in the #SierraNevada mountains yesterday. 💪
@meshcore Hey, if you can reply… what’s the relationship between the MeshCore project and Ripple Radios? I have been contributing to Ripple Radios, but given the new needs I wonder if it’s more helpful to set up a recurring contribution to the MeshCore project. Thank you!
Good morning, and happy Monday, all. ❤️
That’s right, checking my feed, it turns out, was NOT a good way to wind down for the night 🤦♂️

I thought #California would be safe from this sort of insanity
I literally cannot understand the delusions that seem to have taken hold across the populous
It’s like we normalized so-called “alternative facts” and then “AI” “hallucinations” and now consensus reality is a sci-fi concept
The problem is reality still exists, consensus or not, and real people suffer as a result of choices by people in power, whether or not there is an agreed-upon reality (there isn’t)

Two notes:
1. The history of this country is tragic beyond all measure.
2. I cannot express how much I appreciate reminders of where we come from, *especially* a thread like this, in which 2/3rds of the thread is dedicated to footnotes documenting the sources for the thread. 😚👌
