I'm trying to shoot soap films again. I finally got glycerin which helps the films last longer and I lasercut a 2 inch diameter circle to be my frame. It's really tricky to get things in focus and lit well. I haven't quite got it yet but the colors are popping

Apparently someone is impersonating me on mastodon. This is my only account @nervous_jessica

Booked our Adirondacks camp site for next summer. This is a crazy process that involves checking the Reserve America website every morning at 9am until I can get the site we want. Now I just have to wait 9 months...

I was thinking a soap film would make a cool image for a jigsaw puzzle so I attempted to photograph one but it didn't work out great. I've ordered some glycerin and will try again today. The glycerin should let the films last longer so I have more time to work out the lighting and camera settings

I got my flu and covid shots yesterday and now I feel like shit. Everyone else in the family appears to feel fine. That's good I guess. Luckily my workplace is behind my house so I walked here in my pajamas and am managing a bit of work (mostly inventory orders and email)

Successful trip! Sculpture installed! Museum visited! Lunch with friends! Tour of new MIT architecture building! Boston / Cambridge folks message me if you want to see the sculpture (I’m not allowed to post photos online yet)

The place where we’re installing the sculpture is near the new MIT museum, so I’m hoping to visit that tomorrow.

Boston bound today with a giant sculpture in a truck!

Today we are packing a 12ft tall aluminum sculpture into a 15ft truck. The only part of the sculpture that is flat is the base plate, so our plan is to strap the base plate to the front wall of the truck and then build an ad hoc structure out of foam to carry the load down to the floor

They called and left an apology this morning. Not sure if that was motivated by the irate email I sent (as I replayed the conversation we’d had over and over in my head) or the negative review I left online, but I can’t deal with this now as I have to drive a sculpture to Boston

The Scholastic book club flyer is a wasteland of branded cartoon character books, so I when found the sea slug book I was ecstatic

On the positive side, I got the kids this book on sea slugs from the scholastic book club and it’s pretty great.

This required the tasks I hate most: talking to people on the phone and dealing with interpersonal conflict. It’s been a few hours and I am still worked up about it

I took my car in to get the tires balanced today. When I picked it up the bottom of the steering wheel was damaged with a scrape and a series of cuts that feel rough to touch. Shop denied any responsibility and said it was sun damage. I’m was crawling out of my skin trying to argue with them but eventually gave up

Then they go in our rotary tumbler with green pyramids overnight to soften the edges. Looks like I need to cut 42 of these.

After laser cutting, we deburr them with the orbital sander. We had to make a jig to hold them for sanding.

Started laser cutting a batch of the vessel network star ornaments for our Patreon. We lost a couple due to the material shifting. I need to order some more magnets.

I just realized that January will be the 20th anniversary of Nervous System! I guess we need to plan something special for then
