"we shouldn't have rules because I don't know how to enforce them" is the most common shit take these days. it's exhausting listening to these people argue for their own extinction.

the thing that will one day cause me to take this server down will be the ceaseless onslaught of dimwits who will not rest until every activitypub frontend is a 1:1 clone of some corporate hellscape product line they got addicted to and cannot stop pining for

the fact that the grapheneos project completely ignores the externalities of their burgeoning collective psychosis and instead angrily insists to all who will listen that they are very special and can totally handle it is a great reason to throw your smartphone into the ocean as quickly as possible

it is the will of the people that this instance is now Pink

the background color of this snac instance should be pink

Who benefited from this?

The fediverse. The fediverse benefited from this.

It is better off without that person, who is a bad person, and running them off was the correct decision. "They might have brought more people to the Fediverse" is not important at all and certainly does not offset the fact that they are definitely still doing business with and enriching the forces that are destroying Western civilization. Why the fuck would anyone ever make that compromise? Shitheads, that's who.

"Well, democracy has been destroyed by oligarchs, but at least our MAU is up!"

"He disabled Ukrainian internet services mid-war, but I uploaded pictures to his website, so we're still besties"

Deciding that someone belongs to a morally unacceptable category and then chasing them out of your community is fucking awesome and the fact that it works is wonderful. Whether this behavior is ethical or not is rooted in how those categories are defined.

"Chooses to do business with Twitter" is a perfectly valid reason to tell someone to fuck off, or to block them, or to tell your friends to block them. Using Twitter is a decision and people are allowed to despise you for the decisions you make.

For instance, you are choosing to conflate 'holding someone accountable for their choices' with 'violent hate speech' and that's utterly despicable. You do this a lot, like when you tell a story about someone getting blocked and threatened. Those are two separate kinds of behavior. One of them is a crime. The other is completely fine ... but your post lumps them together. Why would you do that? Because your argument only holds up if you can convince readers this person is a helpless victim of some kind of unprovoked aggression, instead of a full-agency grown-ass adult who makes bad choices and suffers opprobrium for them.

Well, I don't buy it.

this post is why we'll be defederating from bsd.cafe, but I'm waiting a day so those of you who have mutuals there can decide what to do about it

this guy thinks being a nazi is a matter of methods. it is not. his inability or unwillingness to identify nazis makes anything he moderates dangerous.

he provides bad-faith summaries of his critics' arguments to make them ridiculous. they are not. his inability or unwillingness to understand his critics means things will not get better on his sites.

if you've got friends on bsd.cafe or any of their affiliated sites, you or they will need to make other arrangements.

Sloptimists will do anything to get you to support their addiction, including threatening whatever you like. "Nobody wants to use that thing you like unless you're nice to the AI chodes" is some craven shit.

summarizing pro-slop arguments from a Certain Thread

• I am addicted to slop
• Banning slop would cause me more work
• I am a slop centrist (i.e., addicted, but unwilling to admit it)
• I am a pedant, and do not believe you can satisfy my desire for pedantry (x3)
• I have carefully structured a bad analogy so that I can imply you are stupid
• Attempts to regulate slop constitute discrimination against me, the sloptimist
• You are (i.e. I am) not smart enough to identify slop (x3)
• Slop exists, and therefore you should spend your resources supporting it
• Whataboutism
• The ends justify the means
• Enthusiastic amorality: I don't like slop, but am eager to accomodate sloptimists
• Different whataboutism
