It was a mistake not to shutdown the internet for the weekends.
I need a new phone.
They all suck.
Now people are getting grumpy I don't have a phone.

Re: Apolitical FOSS
My rule of thumb is any situation that involves more than two people; invokes politics. It's like a gestaltified miasma of social complexity.
So if your FOSS is only for you, and you never share it with anyone. No politics, awesome work centrist, mission accomplished!
But as soon as "other people are involved". The project has politics. It pours in like water to fill the void no matter what you try to do. Your choice as project leader is if the water will be clean or not.

Remember; Free Software contains everything from sleepy hamlet cottage industries, to full on industrial processing facilities
Linux is an industrial workplace. You can smell it. No regard for workers falling into the machines, waste materials piled up in the corner and neighbouring communities impaired by pollution. It has a focus of manufacturer above and beyond anything else
Smaller projects like Inkscape have a managed community, where manufacture is secondary. And it shows for and against
Finally got an #inkscape video put together

This year has been pretty burn-out heavy. Just struggle to do certain kinds of programming without the kind of support that I thik you'd see in a larger team. So a break from the engine and work on UI for a few weeks.
On hard drive failure you simple remove the hard disk and put in a replacement and it does that restore type thing by itself over torrent using the stored conf. For advanced, maybe the conf and keys can be saved on a USB jjjuuusstt in case. That part is a bit sketchy of your house burns down for example.
Ok my backup torrent idea evolved.
Imagine a hard drive with two micro computers in it. One side serves a torrent service, updates on the a/b, no access to the keys at all. Ethernet port. It has two partitions a read only mydata and a read-write othersdata mounted.
The other side of the same device is a USB c connector which when plugged in acts just like a regular hard disk. It has private and public keys and saves data to the disk and mounts the same mydata as above.

Random backup idea: taking the "my backup is other people's computers" to the set of all infinite sets degree... Did anyone ever come up with a scheme to store encrypted blocks of your hard drive in a torrent system with peers? You take their blocks, they host yours. You get your three backups of your important files and all you need is a USB flash drive with the torrent links and the private keys to access the blocks.

Markets are great, but we have this idea that they are a natural phenomenon that appear like mushrooms fully formed whenever two men need to transact their cabbages and copper ore.
No.
Markets are artificial.
Markets are maintained
Markets have owners
Market owners have immense power
The governmental flight from ownership begun in the 1980s is nothing more than a flight from responsibility, from maintenance, from work, from having to make decisions. And it shows in this: Markets.
I bought myself two kiwi fruit; I'm out today doing some work. I get a message from daughter "can I eat one of the kiwis?"
An hour later.
"Can I eat the other one?"
*sigh* yes my child, you may eat my kiwis. I shall get some more. 😆 I can't deny my kid fresh fruit.
When we moved as a project to limit AI use in #inkscape we lost a developer who really got into it. Even did presentations, which I thank him for since it aided understanding.
But now I face the disquiet of not knowing which of the last few years bits of work he worked on were generated and if so how much.
I look at some of this code today and its flat and undisciplined. Is that the devs own coding style or was that a machine's context flattening?
*sigh* it's remediation time.
I'm gearing up to make more pickled red cabbage. This last batch as met wit universal acclaim, even from some folks who ate pickles!
So I will share the recipe here:
Juice was 1/3 pickling salt brine, 1/3 regular vinegar, 1/3 water. A small amount of balsamic to taste.
Vegetables were: A whole head of red cabbage cut medium fine. 2 large jalapenos seeded and quartered. Garlic.
Spice was simple; 4 bay leaves. I didn't use coriander for this one.

Wait what? What!?
The #inkscape website was giving some people a weird permissions request to access localhost and when I dug into it I find this. The repology badge website is no more and... for some reason... points to localhost now.
I can't raise my eyebrow enough for this, I'm going to need Vulcan ears to do it justice. 🤨 🖖

In Feet of Clay (1996), When Terry Pratchett has the King of Golems explode in the end there is all this paper raining down full of all the wishes of the unfree golems that made it. They stuffed its head so full of words that it went on a murderous rampage across the city.
This book is 30 years old.

Nate from KDE has a comment on his blog post which I'm going to surface here:
"KDE software is literally given away for free; it’s a gift. And the social contract for receiving a gift is that you show appreciation for it and for the person who gave it to you."
This is why I advocate for #PayForFreeSoftware, yes you give money for your software, but in exchange your relationship with developers changes and you are a contributor who should be respected as one.
