@jrdepriest @zzt @Tutanota Well, time to leave Tuta.
Fuck AI, and fuck anyone who tells us "if you got a problem, we don't know what to tell you because all programming is AI now."
You can't promise privacy when you don't write your own goddamn code. Period.
this is quite possibly the most Futurism article ever

I wrote up what we know about the Binance hack so far. By my best estimate, Binance is out around $3 billion after stablecoin issuers froze what they could. Changpeng Zhao is promising Binance will cover it, but he’s legally barred from running the company.
fun fucking times going on at Windscribe haha
That's the CEO!

@Tutanota I don’t know how far your head has to be up your ass to not read all of the posts on here from software development professionals about how much it fucking sucks to have your workplace go in on LLMs
and you expect us to believe the problem this time is that random people were using LLMs but somehow, just this once, all your employees know how to prompt the LLM right?
you realize how fucking embarrassing this is after Proton’s CEO got a whole 404 Media article for saying that exact thing, right?
@Tutanota > While GenAI-assisted external contributions are prohibited, LLMs are sometimes used internally during development. Our reasoning here is that there's a big difference between accepting LLM-assisted commits from internal teams versus accepting LLM-assisted PRs from the public.
> Internal use is different because whoever is committing LLM-assisted code takes full responsibility for it and is therefore staking their reputation on that code being good. Git blame will also still show their name.
>
> Hope this helps :)
seriously, what is this fucking nonsense. do you imagine none of us have been forced to work with a professional software development team that went in on LLMs before? do you think we’re imagining how fast quality goes down the shitter? do you think your software is a joke? do you think my privacy is a joke?
@Tutanota believe it or not if you use our ethical stance to enrich your business, we get to decide where the fucking line is
@Tutanota actually speaking of which, weren’t you previously advertising how you don’t do AI? was this another libreoffice situation where you get to say you don’t do AI features and nod along when we go “oh shit tuta doesn’t do AI, that’s incredible” and then surprise, fuck us, your marketing meant nothing
huh good thing I don’t endorse tuta cause now they’re doing slop
https://github.com/tutao/tutanota/discussions/11601#discussioncomment-18757310
yo @Tutanota feel free to not come in here and equivocate about how it’s not slop when you do it like your developers are doing in that github issue
you had one fucking job, this was the moment you could’ve done better than your bigger competitor. you fucked it
and if you think mastodon and lemmy aren’t high value targets for this, you need to reflect on why proton had a tantrum and left mastodon and then came crawling back with memes, with the context you have now
I want you to do something for me
next time you’re in a thread about an organization being obviously corrupt, and it gets flooded with weird posts
look at the accounts. look at their profiles and their post history.
as you scroll through their posts, you may find that they only post in defense of the organization being criticized. they might boost random shit otherwise, or they might have generic bot-like replies to random popular threads. but always, their only detailed posts will be on one specific topic.
absorb what you’re seeing and then think of this quote:
> “So go on there with your personal account and comment to set the record straight,” he wrote. “Perception is more important than truth, the truth doesn’t matter if you don’t win on perception.”
and evaluate how you feel about an organization paying for dark PR, or threatening their employees into doing it
and like, the context for this is that someone was being threatened with being fired for not doing it
and I feel for the worker in this situation, I do
but also, the chances are very high that said worker, or another worker in the same situation, went on to spin up 1000+ accounts to make proton look better on reddit
there was probably a cash bonus in it for them if they used an LLM to troll critical threads
that’s what you should be reading into that quote
they might have to loudly quit a second time and return to exclusively posting to the Reddit community they control. you know, the one that andy yen tells his employees to infiltrate on their personal accounts. that reddit community.
popping some popcorn for when the proton PR account tries posting a hilarious privacy meme on mastodon again
„Torvalds’s first publicly released chatbot code was in January this year, when he vibe-coded a project in Python because he didn’t know enough Python. The programming language kids learn in high school. The guy who runs the kernel couldn’t get his head around #Python.“
