‘musical scores are temporarily disabled’ on wikipedia, that’s an interesting lil thing to run into

how did proton somehow convince people they _weren’t_ ai peddlers within just ~2 years of the last mass exodus that happened because of their ai peddling?!

i’ve had a few conversations this evening with both online and offline friends and. i’m kinda fuckin’ worked up. i love art. i have always loved art. i have not always been encouraged to pursue art, but i have always pursued art; i have always loved art. believed it to be important. human. i believe art is broadly stroked. i believe in outsider art. i have done my research and i believe llms and the larger crop of current ‘ai’ tech to be an affront to art, and by extension, humanity.

i make no exceptions. i am an artist and i stand ground on the idea that artists do not always get what they want and their greatest art often comes from extenuating limiting factors. art is not about ease.

art is not about ease.

if you disagree you are welcome to fuck off as i am unwilling to concede this point that is core to my humanity.

i only wish that you find your humanity as well instead of relying on an unreliable spectre.

but that’s a wish. only you can make it true.

making sure a synth works that i’m hopefully offloading in the near future & making a banger patch by accident 😹

i know i grump a lot about rounded corners and other current ui... decisions. it's not even really about the aesthetics, it's about this pointless need to chase trends. it's about lacking conviction. lacking an identity. it's just sad.

popped over to dot social for a minute to pore over the mastodon 5 design. poop from a butt.

listened to the normal & headphone ("for your personal cassette player") versions of the original recording of 'glassworks' back-to-back today. the regular version really doesn't feel too wide to me, honestly, and on the sparser opening & closing i think the extra width is a bit welcome. i feel like i've had a different opinion on this in the past; maybe on shittier headphones 🤷‍♀️

i backed up allllll my music production shit this weekend, if anyone wants to give me a high-five

i had a dream last night that i signed up and was super hyped for some sort of electronic music workshop and then when i got there i found out everything had to be beat-driven. i think this was my version of the ‘find yourself naked in school’ dream

for those who don’t know, an early version of dan & kathe spracklen’s sargon chess engine was distributed as a book of z80 assembler code. this included routines for a graphic board. the whole thing is well-documented. the sargon engine lived an interesting life that i’d love to really do a deep dive on at some point. apologies for the internet archive screenshots; i’m not with my copy of the book.

talking about tandy 102s with @nflux has me thinking about the cambridge z88 again and also my long-term project idea of entering the sargon chess engine into a machine by hand and documenting the process… will have to mull over the plausibility of this…

really pleased with the result i got ‘decaying’* the end of this remix for @undercat by essentially amplitude modulating it to hell and then shoddily demodulating it back. felt like a fitting experiment for the project & it worked just as i’d hoped.

*normie sense, not, like, adsr

wild how often i see some version of ‘a downside to this synth is all the parameters that can only be accessed via the editor, meaning you need a laptop for performance’ when all the ccs are right. there. in. the. manual.

guess now that we’re a week(‘s worth of days) into october i may as well mention that all (39) of my looptober loops from last year are still available as the bonus tracks on the album i constructed from them & i’d love if someone else made use of them :D https://bethdies.bandcamp.com/album/looptober-2025-mixes-and-loops

what an utterly horrifying profile 😵‍💫

had extra lyre strings, slapped 'em into the phase8

i don’t have anything new this friday. on the off chance any of y’all were looking to support me by picking up ‘sines’, ‘sisterhood/night flight’, ‘to find warmth in snow’, or ‘lysistrata for conservative chasers’, might i suggest you give it a shot on mirlo? i don’t even have massive beef with bandcamp, i just want to see mirlo thrive & that’s where i wanna point people today.
