I really like BlindRadio; it's a very cool tuner app.

I registered the Accessware GitHub org in physical science class in high school in 2021, having no clue what I'd use it for. I just liked the name and realized it was free. Last night, I turned it into a place where all my tools for making accessible desktop apps live. There’s a live region announcer, Rust bindings for Prism, an app updater, CHM and HLP parsers, tools for translating apps, and much more. If you're making Rust desktop apps, I've probably got something for you here. https://github.com/accessware

while projects should "Motivate participants to contribute using diverse incentives that are frequently, if not exclusively, nonmonetary" our new conservative government would help the tech world evolve if it brought back the extra benefit payments for volunteering and allowed working on open source projects.

Big Earshot beta update! 🎧 Version 1.2.6 (311) brings a standalone Apple Watch podcast player: browse shows, stream, download for offline listening, manage Up Next, and move playback between watch and iPhone. We’ve improved two-way queue sync and VoiceOver feedback, too.

External testers can join here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/u8dj5UTr

Please tell us what works—and what needs fixing. #Earshot #AppleWatch #VoiceOver

Been listening to the EDC Orlando festival audio stream on insomniac. It's happening until Sunday, so it'll be on all weekend. David Guetta will be the last performer to close the night. https://insomniacradio.com/channels/ramoo04whogm0h0n

Ok that's pretty wild.

Paperback 1.1 is out! It's on the App Store now, and the Android update is rolling out on Google Play soon.

Highlights:

• A new PDF engine. It's faster, uses every CPU core, and no longer needs pdfium.
• Open a document from a link, on every platform. F5 downloads it again.
• Support for decades of older files: Word for DOS, Word for Windows 1 and 2, Word for Mac, Windows Write, PowerPoint 95, and zipped FictionBook.
• Word documents get real lists, footnotes, endnotes, comments, and picture alt text.
• OCR on Linux.
• Recognized text now follows the page's layout and is remembered, so a scanned document opens with its text.
• iOS text mode is rebuilt for VoiceOver. Read All goes through the whole book, the rotors reach all of it, and lists and tables are real lists and tables.
• A voice, rate, and pitch for each book on iOS.
• Audio books can play at up to 4x, with volume controls.
• Huge text files open with a fraction of the memory, and the 4 GB limit is gone.
• macOS is a universal app, and pb, the command-line converter, now comes with it.
• A Hungarian translation and user guide, plus Slovak and Ukrainian on iOS.
• Many fixes for PDF, RTF, Word, PowerPoint, CHM, and DAISY files.

Thanks to everyone who translated, tested, and reported bugs.

Okay, I really do like some of the new AI capabilities with the new Siri AI. However, why does it need AI processing for me to make a simple phone call? The old Siri used to just make the phone call right away, with very little to no delay. The new one though insists on processing for a little bit, and then finally making the call. Why?

If you use Clipman for iOS I'd appreciate a rating. Not a review, not a donation, just a quick press of the star thing if you're so inclined. It does help to show it to more people, then fewer people would email themselves one-line messages they need to shuttle from one place to another, you know?

I agree with Double Tap here, and as a result, I have added disclaimers in both my README and user manual so users know exactly what they are getting into. Also, if someone gets banned while using whatSnap, kindly DM me the things you were doing at the time, as well as the log file located at %localappdata%\whatSnap\logs\backend.log. This will help me debug what the issue is. Again, if your number matters to you a lot and you can live with the official app, please do so.

Wow! What a hot take as far as the reason why NFB and ACB don't tell the truth about WCAG! Bet he's right, though.

@matt > I don't blame such people for not caring about what I care about; I'm guessing they just don't know. And it's worth considering if this benefit is coming at too high a cost.

This is probably quite bad, but I've gained a fuck'em sort of mantality towards AI doomsayers. Especially those who tell me that all the projects people have vibe coded are slop and worthless, even after being explained that we've been stepped on by the majority of the sighted population for literally as long as I can think of and this is the first ever time we have a tool that lets us say fuck you, we're doing it our way. And does that tool have serious ethical concerns? Sure. But so does ignoring WCAG and Title 2, or putting out an inaccessible banking website, or wanting blind people to read a purely image-filled PDF. So you know what, fuck'em. If you can't even grant me that despite the billionairs controlling it, despite the datacenters, and despite the evil companies, this tech has actually improved the lives of a suppressed minority of the population, fuck you and please go open your mind. If you just don't know, that's one thing. But actively denying benifits that real people tell you about because it furthers your agenda just makes you a dick.

I e-mailed the company who makes the Bluetooth transmitter just to say "Thanks for an accessible Windows app; this is why latency is important for screen reader users." I got a reply less than half a day later and thought it was worth sharing:

Hi Simon,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. We're very glad to hear that the FMA121 works so well for your setup and that you've had a positive experience with FlooCast's accessibility.
Yes, the accessibility support is intentional, and there's actually a bit of history behind it.
When we first developed FlooCast, we used Tkinter, Python's standard GUI library, to build the interface. In September 2024, a user contacted us about accessibility issues. We then discovered that Tkinter's UI components didn't provide proper screen reader support. This came as a surprise, as we had assumed a standard UI library would support accessibility. It was clearly something we had overlooked.
Following that feedback, we rewrote the UI using wxPython, which provides much better accessibility support, and released the updated interface in version 1.1.1. Accessibility has been a supported feature of FlooCast ever since.
We're very pleased to hear that this effort has made a real difference to your experience.
And of course, any further suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!
Best Regards,
Ranson Sha

May I introduce you to Aperio, my fully accessible, cross-platform calendar/task manager? You might have missed my first announcement, but if you're rather into listening to quick and dirty demos rather than reading up on things, here is one for you, its especially quick, although not quite short, and dirty one, but maybe it gives you an idea of what it does and how it works.
