The new #LLM debate in #Debian has made clear to me that we loose the incentives to solve

a) our technical problems using deterministic and less energy-wasting classical methods (Lintian)
b) our social problems by talking to each other (teaching upstreams about SPDX and other machine-readable methods to declare copyright)

Of course this is only one facet to the LLM problem (there are larger issues) but I joined Debian because I want to do the right thing and not "paper over" real problems.

For now, I will no longer be uploading to the #Debian NEW queue.

And yes, I will now go outside and do something nice instead of trying to argue on mailing lists about #LLM use in #FOSS. Maybe do the same. The weather is great outside. :)

The new semester started and this year I have added nine slides for my intro lecture in C++ about the use of LLMs when trying to get better at programming.

It's not on the slides but I may have mentioned the thing with fascist billionaires and pollution of our planet in my verbal commentary on the topic.

This. Don't let them tell you that the end-goal is to write as many lines of code per day as possible. The end goal is you, your enjoyment of the craft and the connection to other people that you make through it. Improve yourself and help others to do the same.
