It’s not a warning to say “my product could do you harm”. It’s attempted extortion.

@siracusa I’ve been meaning to thank you for turning me on to YoLink. I’m regularly giving my garage door the finger and knowing the leak detection will shut off my water main is reassuring. I just wish it wasn’t telling me my fridge wasn’t running about 1.5 degrees warm but that’s *probably* not your fault. 🤪 (seriously though, thanks, the stuff is great and cheap!)

Absolutely worth a watch!

There’s a long arc background to where we find ourselves this show clearly and usefully presents. It makes clear who needs their power curtailed.

I make this recommendation despite pretty obvious biases in the *weighting* in the choices of voices, tone and language featured that undermines an important piece of work.

(P.S. Don’t give PBS too much credit. They bought it not made it. Totally legit but there’s a tendency to see savior in PBS and….not.)

Apparently Quentin Tarantino agrees with us @caseyliss

I hate subscription apps unless they are providing a service that intrinsically requires an online data source or infrastructure. Intrinsically is the key word here.

I happily subscribe to Callsheet and use it, often multiple times a day. It’s great.

Don’t even think about mailing in a ballot. Show up & vote. Do it in person & in as large a group as you can muster. Those around you with work, mobility or other challenges? Find ways to help them get to the polls.

The only power you have at the polls are numbers & the ballot. Use those. Resist all urge to represent minority-coded views in your conduct & dress at the polls. If you have purple hair? Cover it with a hat. Dress like it’s a horrible corpo job interview. No symbols. Stealth wins.

Here’s hoping the market correctly responds to the grift and tanks his IPO.

Sadly unlikely since the ‘wisdom of crowds’ has Tesla with a P/E of 380 right now.

The crowd is an idiot.

This really was terrific and @Cdespinosa, as he always has, sets a bar for generosity and warmth I wish I’d learned from sooner. (He was in my head (though I only met him for seconds once) a lot as I finally got to be a better manager very late career.)

@siracusa Am I misremembering or was Mac Pro 2019 released without having leaked prior? I recall the apology tour and Apple saying something was coming but I find myself thinking the actual box, it’s features and launch were a surprise. Am I mistaken?

@caseyliss A possible query for the movie db?

Edit—- Found a home. Free to any home that picks them up from 15 minutes NW of Boston.

Between 2 and 4 long banker's boxes of classic-era Apple Developer documentation.

I'd rather they found a home than end up in a dumpster, but, home or not, they’re gone in 7 days.

Please share with any nostalgic nerds you know.

Pickup will be next weekend and it’s a ‘can't be picky’ winner takes ALL free deal.

Whole pile and you rehome what you don't want.

@siracusa On a couple of ATP episodes fairly recently you mentioned a very simple and cheap vendor for non-wifi home sensors and I am damned if I can remember what it was and my DDG skills are failing me. Any chance this is clear enough to remember/remind me?

@caseyliss You are 100% right about Apple 1997. Here's an ‘objective' argument for this (correct) position: The number of colors doesn’t scale well to all the use-cases required of a logo. Apple themselves used plain red at the time in many cases (letterhead, business cards) for this reason.

@siracusa Ebay riches await! https://promiseshop.promise.com/us/product/BF2024-F29PDJ220000001

@siracusa I may have misunderstood your ‘capture the file name process’ but if not, this may help:

1) Select list of files in Finder and copy.

2) Paste into BBEdit and you get a list of names, not the media.

I bought the @siracusa TV and Ho-Lee-€£¥%*! is it good. *

One guess what the ‘christening movie’ was.

* If you don’t let it connect to the internet, ever, and try not to see all the buttons and UI for services that paid to play. Even hardware is enshitifying.

You know you can save 79% of the lifetime carbon emissions by not trading yours in and getting getting a new one…

Except that’s not actually how it works and all those posts guilting you are, at best incomplete, takes trading on your emotions for clicks.

At best.

If you trade yours in, someone else will use it and because iPhones are cheaper refurbished the next less-well-off-than-you user may have avoided buying some cheapo new phone from a far less green manufacturer.

@caseyliss I feel your Synology migration pain. I have ~Petabyte to move from four retiring EXT4 severs to three new btrfs severs on new hardware. Did one with adventures. Drop me a line if useful.
