it took so much self control to not name this paper “squiggles SQUIGGLES Squiggles A Field Survey Of Security Squiggles”

please cite me y’all

Following up on the research in that paper, I'm now building an open source HSM toolkit in the Prototype Fund-funded Ashen software and nlnet-funded Yanartas hardware projects. News on these will appear on https://yasec.de/projects/

I've got a new paper coming out in TCHES 2027/1 titled "Tamper Sensing Meshes in Payment Terminals and Beyond". For the paper, I took apart ~30 payment terminals and other "secure" devices to find out how they build their security meshes. Based on that, I create a sort of taxonomy of mesh construction along with a bunch of best practices if you want to build your own.

Thanks to @PrototypeFund for funding this as part of my work on the Ashen open-source HSM stack:

New blog post: I explain how Qualcomm broke linux kvm virtualization on Arduino Uno Q/QRB2210, and what I did to bring it back.

I’ve scrolled too deep into amazon and it has started trying to sell me VESA mount cat beds 🤔

I’m giving away this basic ass Panasonic microwave. It works and it’s reasonably clean. It has a mechanical timer, absolutely no smarts and is guaranteed to never sell your data to a saudi-backed investment fund. It’s big and heavy so I’d prefer pickup (Darmstadt) over shipping.

I’m giving away a large black bequiet ATX PC case. The case has a glass sidepanel. It’s in working order, but has a small nick on the front and some scratches on its top. This one is rather large and the glass side panel is fragile, so I’d prefer pickup here in Darmstadt over shipping.

I’m giving away a traffic light (yes the real thing). It has some drive electronics built in, and takes weird low-voltage DC halogen bulbs.

edit: it has found a new home

I’m giving away a pair of crutches

I’m giving away a small drill press (lightly used)

edit: it’s probably gone

I’m giving away a small vacuum cleaner

I’m giving away a tubular lock pick (new, unused)

I’m giving away five odd long monochrome TFT displays. IIRC they have a simple parallel bus that works with a stock pi, but need a weird backlight supply voltage.

edit: they’ve found a new home

I’m giving away a Magsafe L type to type C power converter (so magsafe power supply plus this equals type C power supply at up to 45W)

I’m giving away five new in box Verifone card payment terminals (and maybe the guts of a sixth if you’re interested)

I’m giving away a pair of mostly unused AKG K271 Mk II stock ear cushions

I’m giving away: A bunch of industrial load cells, different types ranged 5kg to 100kg, 8 total.
