I was recently reminded how much I love freshly made lemon curd and how relaxing I find standing in front of a double boiler with whisk in hand to be. I took the little bit leftover from the pavlova the other night and added a bit of freshly whipped cream thinking I was being all kinds of creative before I realized that’s basically just mousse (yes I know it’s done with egg whites as well…shush). Ah well…I folded in some blueberries and had a pretty decadent dessert as a result. Not a shabby way to end my Sunday. Time to curl up with a book and enjoy the rainy evening. Nighty night Fediverse, sweet dreams.

I know folks keep mocking Susan #Dell but I honestly think she’s aged gracefully since her appearance in Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”

I’m sure #Amazon will get first crack at the streaming rights for the firing squad execution, given all the money that #Bezos has funneled into the pockets of #trump

#trump scored a 12 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Yes, I know he says he scored a 30 but the test came from #Canada so we have to factor in the #tariffs when considering his score.

Officially at the two week mark now with using Nobara Linux as my primary desktop system and so far it's been far more stable than Garuda was for me. After two weeks on Garuda I had already had to restore btrfs snapshots multiple times so this is already proving to be a smoother transition.

My biggest concern going into this was that the performance of some of the more graphically-intensive games was going to take a serious hit upon moving to Linux. I've been pleasantly surprised to find that not only is the gaming experience one that works mostly out of the box, but that if I do a bit of tweaking and tinkering with gamescope and gamemode settings, I'm often getting substantially higher framerates than I ever saw on Windows 11 running the proprietary AMD drivers.

The only item that I thought I was going to be unable to do anything about was Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which wasn't huge as the zergling hasn't really been playing it lately and that was my primary reason for playing it in the first place. Again, pleasantly surprised to find a project called "BedrockOnLinux" which allowed me to install the regular Windows Bedrock install (not the Android version that all the guides seem to reference) and it runs great. I can even run mods with Ray Tracing enabled.

Cripes...that was more kvelling about my Linux gaming setup than I had intended...probably should have given this a CW to warn folks that intense levels of geek-like behavior lay ahead.

Ahoy there friends, fiends, and everyone in between. I am 99% certain I had a conversation about using voice assistance tech for Mastodon with one of you. OK that's a lie...it's more like a 72% certainty. My brain is not a reliable thing these days. If that was you, your expertise is requested!

I have (I hope) made my very first pavlova...or at least the base of it. The meringue is finishing baking right now and then I'll shut off the oven to let it finish drying and cooling. If I remember to do so I'll try to snag a picture of the finished product for later but so far I'm rather chuffed with how it's gone for my first foray into this particular dessert.

There are so many movies from my childhood that I knew “This didn’t age well” would be an understatement. Like…I didn’t have to go back and watch “Porky’s Revenge” to know that it was an incredibly problematic film. So I usually at least have *some* idea that a movie I might have remembered enjoying in my youth would now make me fling the remote in disgust.

I was so unprepared for “Short Circuit.”

I was an autistic kid in the eighties, I fucking loved robots. In my head, this was a movie about robots and Steve Guttenberg was there. I literally had no memory of anything else beyond loving this movie having a human-sized robot. A clip from the movie showed up in my YouTube feed recently and I was reminded that there were in fact other characters. Specifically I was reminded of the character “Ben Jabituya” who I only just learned was played by Fisher Stevens. Dude is in straight-up Brownface makeup, laying down every possible insulting stereotype of Indian men to the fucking hilt. What. The. Fuck.

I found a bunch of articles on this so I must officially be the last GenX person on Earth to find this out.

Watching the loyalist #republicans of the #maga cult, who all bent knees early to access prime bootlicking territory, slowly but surely turn on both #trump and each other fills me with a grim satisfaction. I hope I get to see them all eat each other. "Thus they let their anger and fury take from them the sense of humanity, and demonstrated that no beast is more savage than man when possessed with power answerable to his rage."

With apologies to Edgar Allan Poe, I wrote this as I sat on yet another pointless 8 AM meeting that could have been an email.

Once upon an #AI query, while I pondered slop from Siri,
Over many a quaint and curious pull request made by bots galore--
While I prodded, close to snapping, at this painful JSON mapping
I closed PRs and loudly swore
"'Tis some agent," I muttered, "Pushing garbage more and more--
Only this and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was all in mid-September,
That Claude threw my code in a blender and shat it out upon the floor.
"Arrivederci," I thought with sorrow, at skills AI sought to borrow
From my books on Rust and Cargo, that Freshman will no more explore--
For all the talented engineers I know and love in Bangalore--
Writing slop for evermore.

I hate that AI has coopted my beloved emdash but it can pry it from my cold, dead, shriveled hands...right along with my ellipses and my Oxford comma.

I like to pretend that the company Lululemon is chaired by an entity named Lou Lulemon who draws their eldritch energies from tight pants.

I made up this term a couple of days into the first #trump presidency when he did the first of what any of us paying attention knew would be many mind bogglingly stupid things. That term is “guffweepshit,” a portmanteau of guffaw, weep, and shit.

Like when he suggested injecting bleach or sunlight into a person to address Covid? That’s guffweepshit. So stupid, so damaging, so deadly, that you laugh while cursing to avoid bursting into tears.

My latest moment of that was tonight as I was sitting contemplating the common wisdom that states that the president of the United States has very little direct control over gas prices and realizing that this common wisdom was rooted in the idea that the president isn’t a fucking moron. So now we’re probably going to have all of these common sense rules that all are going to be called into question because we had this idiot with no common sense at the helm.

So yeah…guffweepshit. Actually I might go cry anyway…

My kink is winning at "pay-to-win" games without paying those companies a single cent.

Another day, another zero-day vulnerability. I guess at least this one seemed to be found by a security researcher instead of a script kiddie with an #AI chatbot so, yay?

You asked ChatGPT? Well I asked my cat. You know what my cats’s answer was? Their answer was to lick their own butt while maintaining uncomfortable amounts of eye contact with me. It cost me zero tokens.

I like to think that in an alternate universe where we're all birds instead of humans that George Clinton is still with Parliament and decided to name it thus because he and the rest of the band are owls. Yes, I *am* overtired, why do you ask?

The Venn diagram of Mastodon users and MGA restorers is probably in the single digits, but just in case there's one more of us out there...

My 1960 MGA.
How it started/ How it's going.

You think "oceanic, for a year+ of work that thing looks worse than when you started."

And yet. Here is everything I've done to this car since last June.

Jacked it up and removed the sorry excuses for tires.
Tore off non-original cloth roof that ripped in five places.
Removed seat cushions to be restored inside.
Checked body, chassis, and car numbers to confirm it's all original.
Tested circuitry in the car to confirm it wasn't shorting out.
Hand-turned engine to check for stuck valves.
Chipped old rubber seals off of... everything.
Removed old fuel pump and replaced with a new pump and filter.
Cleaned and repainted various OEM hardware.
Redid 75% of the fuel lines to strip out suspicious non-original T-junctions.
Emptied gas and checked for sediment, inspected tank.
Emptied ancient oil and converted car to a spin-on filter.
Reinforced corroded battery tray with new welded parts.
Checked the wheel splines and confirmed they don't need replacement.
Removed old fanbelt.
Installed sparkling new carb lines.

That's enough for a year without a garage, tyvm. Today, I cracked some ancient seals off the engine top with a chisel.

“No one wants to work anymore…”

My man, finish the whole sentence at least. No one wants to work *like this* anymore.

I bought some skincare products with snail mucin in them entirely to satisfy my curiosity, suspecting this was likely psychosomatic internet hype to get a bunch of rubes to rub snot on their face and claim it made their skin glow. So I admittedly went into this whole thing rather biased against it.

I'll be damned...this stuff is actually pretty fantastic. I have fairly sensitive skin and this has done well even with my usual skin issues. So apparently it's not all hype after all.

Sorry...I should say, it snot all hype...

A #haiku about #AI I've written for your enjoyment whilst I sit patiently for my turn on this status update call:
