I realized I never posted a picture of our new snake here. Slate is a pretty common corn snake. He still wiggles quite a bit when handled, but my daughter is holding him every day to get him more acclimated to it. His skin is extremely smooth, cool, and soft, a bit like worn leather to the touch.

Since I know some folks are afraid of snakes I’m CWing this post, but he’s totally harmless; even on the rare chance he did bite it would be roughly on par with that of a puppy.

Slate the corn snake pokes his head out of one of his many hiding spots in his enclosure, using his tongue to sniff around. His head is out of focus, unfortunately. He has a brownish-grey mottled psttern along his back.

Slate rests on his hammock; well, he rests his front, anyway. Here his head is very in-focus, and you can make out his eye and mouth easily. You can also see his underbelly is tinged yellow.
