4000 words in two days. When I get going, I GET GOING.

Still good words, too. Words I like. A flow I like. Even a little gag; I rotate around 3 POV characters until they come together into 3rd-person omniscient. I don't know what it means, but I did it! I even took a whack at the denouement.

A complete first draft is VERY MUCH within my grasp in just a couple of days. I might have a late night tonight. :)

I can make a cake from a mix. I used to do that with my girlfriend (now wife, but also still my girlfriend). We'd make a chocolate cake and sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Then we'd get two forks and eat it while watching TV.

The other thing is that I would love an Asian-Canadian or Asian-American storyteller to adapt the book I'm working on. My lead was originally biracial, Chinese/white, but the idea was she was a product of the Chinese diaspora in Vancouver, a place where white people and Chinese people mix a lot, which eventually creates a whole community of biracial people. I realized at a certain point that I wouldn't be ale to pull it off, but I would love someone else to run with it. I wish in vain.

I have an idea for a humour piece where aliens land on Earth, and in Canada, they go visit Indigenous band councils and ignore the Canadian government. Someone like Thomas King could have a lot of fun with that idea. Of course, he's got plenty of his own, and doesn't need my help!

Wrote 1500 words today, good ones, too. It was like old times where I Just Write, and it magically comes together. One thing leads to another leads to where I wanted to go to begin with. Very satisfying.

Basically always, yes. A lot more drawing when I was little, and a twenty-year gap when what I wrote was academic work, first as a student and then as a prof, but writing has always been a huge part of my life. Hell, I've been *writing* on the internet consistently since I was 14.

I think I my lead. She "wins" fights that she shouldn't win. It's a bit cliche, very Hollywood, but I like the ways in which I've found for her to "win" even when she's really lost.

When it's part of your genre. When it's part of the audience's expectation. There's an indigenous film called ATANARJUAT: THE FAST RUNNER the lead character's ancestor or family member (I can't remember the details), and it's not "deus ex machina" bc in that cultural context, it's part of storytelling.
