TIL that your local bookshop does actually get money from things you buy via https://bookshop.org, but they get more if you buy it from the bookshop directly. I certainly know my local in Broughty Ferry will order things for me too
@neil @hedders not sure if either of you have capacity or if you can help, but how do you find a good solicitor to help with the weird freelancing bit of company law/employment law?
Trying to help a friend find a solicitor and it is difficult (if you have the time I'd be very happy to put her in touch with you). Not a tech company, but some bits might become tech related.
Ugh. I am not a morning person
Why do sloppers need to ruin floss projects? Can't they just go and get the bot to build the whole thing for them?
Successfully prosecuting the LLM companies under The Computer Misuse Act for their hacking activities is going to do a lot more to regulate their behaviour than any proposed regulation is.
I have a feeling any upcoming regulation will just build a moat around the existing big players and entrench their position.
I think gen ai/LLMs are supposed to make us give up on creating and FLOSS. If there is no community building things the only place you could get it from is the oligarchs.
This Is For Everyone is now available in paperback.
You might recognise the face on the cover...a younger me at MIT in 1998 when 150 million people used the web. Today it's roughly 6 billion.

I'm so used to pipewire being a bit of a confusing mess, that I wasn't expecting how simple, working, and done pipewire-0 in emacs is. (via @sacha)
I suppose I still need to figure out how to use it programmatically, but at least I can avoid using my mouse if I want to.
I'm a green lefty antifascist.
I actually enjoy computers. I like lisps and spend my days coding in clojure and continually reconfiguring my Emacs. I've almost got it right.
I try to use my powers for good. I hope I'm succeeding.
I really enjoy cycling. I like gardening but can kill a cactus.
I enjoy watching and reading sci fi.
Do you know why you won't find any mention anywhere on the W3C website of #web3? It does not exist. BOOM! There is one web.
Happy elections day in 2/3 of England's local authorities!
Big thanks to everyone who make our elections work: polling station staff, returning officers, counters, electoral registration officers and many others.
W3C’s Technical Architecture Group (TAG) has convened a task force that has written a set of privacy principles for the web. We welcome your feedback before the end if April if possible.
