The high winds of the nor'easter have finally arrived

saturday about 11 AM

The forecast has been warning about high winds and possible power outages, since at least thursday

I continue to find this so hilarious

Europeans on social media: our railroads are so bad

Americans: wow European trains are so fabulous !!!

RE: https://mastodon.ie/@sk76/117311104459067595

our parents and grandparents had really wierd ideas about what was , or wasn't, hip and cool and modern

just my two cents

I imagine that at one time,, Formica was sold as the new hi tech glamor product, sort of the apple iphone of its day

This is why I have never bothered to try Linux

cause every week or so, there is some post about a problem w Linux, a problem that MS or Apple solved 20 years ago

and sure, one little problem, ok
but dozens of little problems ?
it adds up

PS I bought a windows 11 laptop about 4 years ago, zero issues for me, but as you all know

workflows !!!!!

when I saw this post from @carnage4life , the 90% number made my BS radar ping a little

far as I can tell, this number is from a lawsuit, where it is allegeded that the AI model has a 90% error rate

this may well be true, but all sorts of things are allegded in lawsuits

If you are interested in teh US Canada "trade war" (quotes cause it is orange haired toddler nonsense) then far and away the best thing I have read is this

https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/adding-injury-to-insult-canada-edition?publication_id=277517&post_id=214867358&isFreemail=true&r=18wrbc&triedRedirect=true

summary: the US economy will suffer a surprising amount, but Canada will suffer more

but Americans are asked to suffer for no reason, while Canadians are asked to suffer for patriotism

as it is possible that James Gosling is a super coder, a 1% guy in coding, it is possible that his experience with AI is not representative of the other 99%

This Atlantic article is another example of a possibly true, but probably not meme, that kids were outside more in the past

"golden ageism" , the past was some paradise, which should **always make your BS radar ping loudly

astonishing how many people here are intellectual snowflakes, IMO

you disagree, more or less politely, and they block you

talk about epistemic bubbles for progressives

If it was allowed, and if I had the tech chops to do it, I would reply to every post that cites the UK Guardian as a source with below
LOL

Mastodon is a place where people think Kaine is a worthless centrists and P Buttigieg is a fearless progressive

what ever

If wind/solar is, truly, cheaper then other forms of electricity, then why are giant data centers not being built with wind/solar power ?

well, clearly, one can think of reasons, but there are large rural areas in the US that have a LOT of wind (the high plains) or a LOT of solar (desert SW)

Texas apparently has both

kind of sad how mastodon, supposedly a bastion of free thought that opposes the techno fascists, doesn't amplify this more

almost like all that AI hate talk is just cosplay

intro

I'm liberal, but I detest liberals who say incorrect things

Class, a la Marx, is so important, which is why we can't talk about it

I can't do anything about the deranged rantings of the MAGAs, but I think we should do better

PhD so I actually know about DNA/RNA/Protein stuff

I often say controversial things, but I often apologize and retract if I seem to be wrong

I'm 66yro, & sometimes get annoyed when people toot as if something is new when it is in fact old as the hills
