“power supply concerns” aka having to pay a fair price

Google’s AI pinned another man’s sex crime on a doctor, and a German court says Google must answer for it
Two German courts, in Munich and Aachen, have ruled that Google is liable for false claims in its AI Overviews and AI Mode, treating them as its own words.

New in PN: Who wants to visit an authoritarian America?

"Data shows that the United States is on its way to being as unpopular a tourist destination as Russia, and for roughly the same reasons. In both countries, a tourist who runs afoul of government officials might spend the next six months in a freezing warehouse without legal counsel, eating moldy bologna sandwiches and praying that they won’t die of disease, neglect, or just an old-fashioned beating by the guards." https://www.publicnotice.co/p/trump-us-tourism

Geen mens, geen dier, geen cent aan oorlog!

And apologies dear Fedi friends if I continue to write about #WSocial, but I have my reasons:

1) The platform is fully endorsed by the European Commission!!! With von der Leyen taking time away from G7 meetings to do a video ad for their launch (!!!)

2) The #openweb #privacy destroying #EUKidsAct has been discussed between W and the EC during a meeting in early September. If W Identity is the thing implementing it in Europe, we're all in trouble as they publish personal details to the open web

"Why are you writing code by hand? It's not very efficient, you could do that with AI."

Oh yeah? Well living is not very efficient, you could save energy by being dead, why don't you go upload your brain to a GPU.

Come work with us! We are looking for a 2 year fully funded postdoc on Usable Privacy-Enhancing Technologies and Attribute-Based Identity Wallet Technology in a large EU project. #academicjob

Kijk vooral ook naar wie *tegen* stemden, de voorstanders van internationale wetteloosheid, het recht van de sterkste, "might is right"...

"Who controls the algorithm, and what is it optimizing for?" is a more useful question than "chronological or not?"

I think we should be pushing back on these things. I'm worried and dissappointed that FOSS leadership isn't. I'm really worried we might never recover from the damage that's already been done.

I gave a keynote on Information Overload in academia at the SESAME workshop JCDL 2026. The keynote was followed by good discussion about scholarly communication in general and the impact of AI.

What we learn today: if long range communication crucial for your defense depends on satellites, do not rent those from a foreign nation's commercial entity.

What this tells us about tomorrow: if all communication, for military and citizens alike, depends on internet and ICT services, do not rent those from foreign nation's commercial entities.

Even more so, if that foreign nation's population elected authoritarian leadership to rule them (for whatever "reason").
