- i was careful to make this *not* an algorave or live coding event. on the day, someone who had signed up came up to me worried, saying they didn't realise it was a live coding event and was it okay for them to do non live coding things, and i was pleased that i could reassure them "don't worry, this isn't a live coding event" which felt one step closer to the purpose of our community than "we don't know what live coding is, come help us find out"
from scratch london unstructured thoughts
- wow you can [just] put on an event by sending emails, Daniel was right
- many thanks to Nadya for the poster, Daniel for one projector and the mixer, and Bee for a bonus projector, and everyone else for making the event happen!
- Sunday evening was weird but really nice. we had a great turnout! reached a broader crowd compared to usual. thanks to Chau for reaching people from the touchdesigner crowd! we also reached some people from the synth scene, and also the more techy techy scene. they all seemed to love it!
i've figured it out
come and watch my talk about the "fuck off ai music" movement at Peckham Digital in a couple weeks from now
https://www.tickettailor.com/events/peckhamdigital/2434095
i have no wish to 'convert' or 'convince' AI-art-creators to stop doing/creating AI art. instead i wish for them to go away and leave me+us alone. i see it the same as bigoted people! i'm not here to educate u, please leave
seeing some art communities try to make room / welcome / fix ai-art-creators. to me it says "goodbye Lu". goodbye
luckily this seems to be a pretty rare view but its more common in laptop/computer-based communities (surprise surprise)
yes we are all trying to figure out what AI taking over the world and our jobs means. that doesnt mean we let it into our art spaces
if u turn up to one of our events in london doing something AI, no one is gonna stop u, but i think you'll be swept away by all the human-as-possible collaboration going on instead and no one will be interested in your AI art project
(yes yes yes i'm using the term "AI" to mean "big bad AI" dont shoot the messenger and dont be that reply guy)
algobars generation
genuinely pleased that engineers are no longer a precious treasure just wish the solution didnt involve so much climate-collapse or planet-scale theft or habitat-destruction or power-centralisation or surveillance-on-steroids or tech-bros.
me in 2010:
"i wish there was a way for the non-coders around me to code without coding"
(monkeys paw curls)
16 years later:
"hey grok is this real"

new technology unlocked
tech bros in 2026: "we need to make AGI so that it can tell us how to stop the climate crisis."
AGI in 2046: "stop using fossil fuels."
my reaction
can't believe pastagang figured this out the hard way when we could have just watched this talk
(the talk was amazing - by Linda Rising about group intelligence)
come watch my talk at Peckham Digital!
AUTOMATION AND US:
https://www.tickettailor.com/events/peckhamdigital/2434095
some people try to reassure me about ai by saying that local models will come along and save us from the big cloud companies.
but i have questions: who's training these local models? what are they trained on? is it still costly to train them (both €€€ and environment)? can i run it on my laptop? can i run it on my phone?
but no one has answers. if anyone does have ideas for these please do let me know (i'd love to receive some good news for a change)
i feel like i should start keeping stats on the number of VC-AI and big tech companies who reach out to me for work. they clearly dont read my blog. every time i say no i feel good but i also feel anxiety on turning down work
i am a dying artist please help

(serious) i challenge all the music theorists out there to tell me what time signature this is in and prove it by recording themselves counting it out loud. if you have an alternative to "time signature" that's okay too
