(1/2) 37 years ago today I submitted my proposal for the World Wide Web 🎂. Today, Rosemary & I spoke with students in New Orleans at Walter Isaacson's Digital History Class at Tulane University. I was asked, as I often am, if I ever could have foreseen where we’d be today. I could not.

Today the Web Sustainability Guidelines (WSG) became a First Public Draft Note.

This specification defines web-focused guidelines that use planetary, people, and prosperity principles (the PPP approach) throughout the decision-making process, allowing users to minimize their environmental impact in various way.

@aardrian tagged me in his "tag, you're it" post in March, and it's taken me until now to get to it:

And with permission, I've tagged lolaodelola@mastodon.social to take up the baton 😊

I finally got around to jotting down a few notes on using my Ray-Ban Meta Glasses:

I joined host Peter White on BBC Radio 4's In Touch programme ast night, to chat about the forthcoming European Accessibility Act (EAA) and what impact it might have on blind and low vision people in the UK (if any):

Today is the anniversary of the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee.

W3C has continued to expand on what the web does by our mission to make the web work, for everyone. We bring together global stakeholders to develop open standards that enable a World Wide Web that connects and empowers humanity.

> “Are you a web developer or a technophile? Would you like to meet the people who make Web standards? It is possible, on March 3 at 7 p.m. in Paris!

My comrades from the W3C (Technical Architecture Group) TAG and I are organizing a meetup to explain what the TAG and W3C do and to better engage with developers and fans of the Web.

🎂 🎉 Happy birthday CSS!!

On December 17, 1996, @w3c published the first standard for #CSS, and issued a press release entitled "CSS1 offers fast, easy way to manage web site look and feel", with quotes from @timbl @bert and Håkon Lie

"W3C web accessibility work boosted by Ford Foundation core funding"
"This is W3C's first major funding as a 501(c)(3) organization and I look forward to the impact we’ll create with this. We welcome other like-minded donors to support our work on accessibility, and also our work on internationalization, privacy and security, so that we can make the web work, for everyone.” noted @seth

Last month, we celebrated three decades of @w3c and the incredible global impact of its web standards.
In this talk, @tink reflects on the past 30 years, especially her many encounters with the W3C. She concludes that the true accomplishment isn't the standards and specifications, but the incredible people of the Web community she has had the privilege to work with.

I was asked about (my) history of the web and relationship with @w3c by @bkardell on behalf of @igalia 3 weeks ago. The filmed interview aired last night.

So many memories resurfaced! For example did you know the 1998 soccer World Cup was streamed live, in ascii, over Telnet? I watched it!

Parts of the interview are a bit personal, but I got to share with Brian some of my favourite thoughts and hopes for #w3c

If you watch/listen I hope you learn something ☺️
