Elliot is a bigger cat, and he has trouble properly cleaning everywhere. Over time, he gets uncomfortable, and you can tell, because he growls at his own tail and fights with it.
So it was bath time today, as it is every couple of months or so. An inch or two of warm water in the tub, cat-intended shampoo and conditioner (just a little), and warm water gentle scrub all over, to make his fur nicer (you can tell when it's getting to be time, as it doesn't feel quite as sleek). Warm washcloth around... the hard-to-reach areas. No water poured over his head, just a gentle wipe over the top, along the cheeks, down the chest.
He was a very good boy today, and didn't mind at all, once his toes were in the water. He likes to be told when he's done, so he can hop out on his own onto the towel I'll have placed on the floor. Gentle drying off, only in the direction of the fur, then off to my room to keep him in a smaller space with a little less random fuzz in the corners while he takes care of the rest himself. Easier to keep it a little warm in here, too, because I don't want him getting cold while he's damp.
Oh--and now he's on my bed, getting it wet. Par for the course. But he's clearly more comfortable already.
