Ad-blockers* are also self-defence:

"This is the first-ever public confirmation of zero-click mercenary spyware delivered via targeted ads. We call the technique AdFection, and show how it was used to infect devices at Al Jazeera with Candiru’s spyware. We also uncover Discover-Tech, and show how the company helps mercenary surveillance vendors track and hack devices around the world."

* They aren't really blockers, they're filters to choose what you don't (in-)voluntarily download.

A real alternative to Meetup?

Mobilizon aims to offer a decentralised, more affordable alternative to Meetup for organizing activities and building groups.

The ambition is there, but there’s still a long way to go. We need to keep improving the software and, just as importantly, encourage more people and organizations to use it.

Achieving this goal requires people, resources and sustainable funding.

Help us keep going: https://mobilizon.org/support_en

Seeing everyone vibe code their "photoshop killer" or "ableton killer" when free and open source perfectly cromulent alternatives have already existed for years gave me one of several realisations:

The software itself isn't the solution. You need to have a userbase and supportive community around your software/tool to see any level of success. And these one-shot attempts just ain't it.

if you are serious about #enshitification and #sovereignty, but you still want to be on old platform "to not use/lose your audience":

1. drop news on inclusive, equitable, open platforms like the #fediverse at least an hour earlier than on older platforms
2. have closed platforms link to the news on the open platforms
3. give open platforms the same attention and respect of closed platforms

Otherwise your #fediverse presence is not authentic, is just fake

Israel is not just committing genocide of people but also cultural and ecological genocide. 90% of Palestinian olive trees have been destroyed in the last few years, farms and livelihoods destroyed. A network of Palestinians and allies seeks to preserve Palestinian heirloom seeds and cultural heritage. See below to support this group, order seeds, raise awareness and offer to be a seed saver.

Attention: We currently advise against upgrading to Forgejo 17.0.0. An issue is currently being investigated that prevents pushing, merging, or other code operations in some cases.

If you haven't updated yet, please wait until the issue has been investigated more thoroughly, if possible.

@janneke We should bring more efforts to #Hurd. Can you brief what's the status and what can be ways to contribute? I wanna eventually have the option to just use Hurd in #Guix.

We need to start boycotting the #Linux kernel, with the way it's BFDL (no longer benevolent) is behaving. I mean read this:

> Torvalds answered that the kernel project only wants serious developers. That includes having access to enough resources to function in this world.

This is so Eurocentric, so Americanized that it doesn't realize how much work people from the "Third World" have done for #FreeSoftware and the kernel. It's extremely offensive.
