Put me down as someone who thinks the phrase "Digital Twin" is buzzword bullshit indistinguishable from a "model".

For posterity, here's the birding.aus post
Philip's White-fronted Honeyeater https://share.google/QHfn4e8StSn1ridUc

Slightly related, after rescuing the New-Holland Honeyeater on the weekend, I reckon it's stayed basically in the same grevillea the whole time. The White-Fronted HE is VERY closely related, and it was literally in the same bush for 6 months, so I reckon it could be the bird staying put.

A few years ago, a White-Fronted Honeyeater moved into a front yard in Canberra. Very rare bird for the area, usually hundreds of km west.
Anyway turns out it's in the front yard of one of the most autistic birdwatchers in the country (a competitive field) and stayed in the same bush for 6 months! Philip invited everyone to come and see it and kept a list of the birdwatchers who had seen the bird. I was about 160 odd

I realised tonight I mostly listen to the singer for the changes. But I should be counting bars! I am not very good at that!

So had my first proper band rehearsal tonight, couple of hours of absolutely battling through a few 70s classics. It is such a challenging task! Not upsetting or whatever, but the cognitive load of remembering a song, communicating with the others, listening and trying to play is incredible. Probably very good for the Brain.

But yeah, we had some moments, starting to come together. Not having a singer makes it difficult, but we'll get one in

A new Windows (TM) feature that I love is autofill for passwords. That way when I'm logging into Zoom I can accidentally put my credit card number in as my name.

I am starting to think that coffee roasters are pretty much like bakers. Yes they can be very good. But there's probably one nearby that's close to as good as the best in the country, and it's cheaper and closer. I've had loads of 4 star beans from all over the country, and 5 stars are usually a fleeting moment in freshness and time.

Then once you've actually got the fucking program there are these microsubscriptions for each of the fucking features.
This is part 1000 in an infinite series of "I fucking hate SaaS and the business models it generates" It's the dairy cow approach to customer service. Pen them in, extract as much as possible, only give them something if they demand it.

Microsoft is the most miserable fucking company in the world and I've just spent an hour yelling FUCK OFF at my computer. Try and find out if you have a Visio subscription and then download it. The fucking app doesn't exist in their app store. You have to do a million fucking things then they trick you into buying it. FUCK OFF

Extreme agreement here

I heard recently, and chose to believe: one of the local hippie schools allows kids to "identify as Furries" and if they're say a dog, they're allowed to bite people. Yep. That's what I heard.

@PhilWill it was Jarod Cochran both times.

I think it was in 2017 I logged into Facebook, saw a post from someone I went to school with, replied with "this is easily the stupidest fucking thing I have ever read in my life", rethought my lifechoices, closed my account and left it for about 5 years. Then something came up, a school thing I think and I needed to reactivate it again.
Someone just tricked me with a link to FB and THE SAME GUY IS STILL COMMENTING THE SAME DUMB SHIT. I started typing and went "I've been here before..."

At the risk of stating the bloody obvious, this Nepal flood is a disaster.
My first degree is in Geography and we did a long unit on natural hazards. This sort of glacial lake burst is 1. hard to monitor and 2. hard to stop. Every melt season will be tenterhooks

I'm putting together some photos for my work website. I should include this in the "Don't" section?

Ha! Freud would something something. The missing verb here is "quitting".

I'm my job tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it. Might go watch the Odyssey to celebrate

In response though, I have been sent a spreadsheet with every single one of my 960 expenses from the last 12 months, a copy of the travel and expenses policy and been asked to explain how each expense meets the policy.
This is going to be some of the most malicious compliance ever. I am writing complete answers to every single line and referring to the policy number for each line item. This will take me days and I am not doing anything else until it's done.

I hate working in corporations example 10 million: I've got a corporate CC and it's a soft card. About 6 months ago I accidentally spent personal money on it, i just didn't realise it was my primary card, about $500. I went oops, take it out of my pay.
Swings and roundabouts in my view, I haven't bothered claiming a whole bunch of things. It's not worth the paperwork.
