Tee hee so funny and clever doing exactly the thing someone had just made clear they want you to stop doing

Bleh

My inner quads were super tight so I bailed on the squats. It sucks, but it's better than hurting myself. Going to the gym after dinner definitely didn't help. But I get to go back to day time gym next week at least

Hm, conundrum.

It's finally cool enough that I want to wear leggings instead of shorts at the gym. And I have brand new leggings that I love. But now my knee sleeves keep sliding down 😕

This was a powerful quote in today's interview with Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor:

"Every fascism has its subhumans, but for the techno-fascists humans are the subhumans."

@chimerror someone told us something like "these people have a level of understanding similar to a child who thinks food comes from the store"

Stay pedantic, mastodon

@JessTheUnstill @astraluma
ok, I spent some time on wolfram alpha.

So, what I'm saying is that the "car" in that video had 4 "compressed air" nozzles venting below the frame, which were supposedly lifting it off the ground and flipping it around in the air. This ignores the much smaller nozzles on the sides. And it's advertised to weigh up to 3700 pounds

Assuming the nozzles are 10cm across, each of them would need to vent ~541 kilo pascals of gas pressure per second to lift the car off the ground. That is a little more than enough force to hold it up against gravity. I'm ballparking the time it spent manuevering at around 10 seconds. So, let's call that 5,410 kPa exerted over the course of the demo.

We need to store that gas in a pressure vessel, and it needs to still be able to produce at least 541 kPa of pressure at the end of the demo, so it needs to have approximately an 11th second of gas in reserve. That's a lot of gas, and a lot of pressure. A very high quality steel pressure canister would need walls that are at least 1.09 inches thick to contain it. If that canister is 2.5m long and 1m diameter, each of them would weigh 1,213 (acab lol) pounds, which altogether is about 900 more than the advertised weight of the car.

I am willing to believe that space x could do this with rockets. But it's physically impossible with compressed air.

Not to mention, how loud would the suction fans have to be to hold a 3,700 pound car to a surface upside down?

Anyway, that video was almost certainly a fiberglass shell bolted to a high end drone or two. Which is probably why the stock dropped 3% after people saw it.

lmao

So, assuming the flying tesla was real, which it is not, how much pressure would the compressed air tanks have to contain to be able to flip a 3,700 pound car in mid-air, and then arrest that rotation and lower it to the ground?

Cuz that's just a bomb. But I'm betting it would be a bomb big enough to destroy your neighbors houses, nevermind yours.

Linus is saying the quiet part out loud: AI-native projects are environments where the key ingredient is _capital_. Abstraction can be performed by a quiet appreciation. True automation can be disruptive.

AI-based architectures (again, assuming that the AI works reliably, which is a highly contingent proposition) translate all that stuff into capital flows. A "machine speed" project requires _money_ to participate in, regardless of their complexity.

we're back. https://nora.jewelry/

Everyone, I have a suggestion: New Skill November.

#NewSkillNovember

Turns out AI can cause more problems than it solves. Cleaning up AI slop is one issue. 36% of AI execs at companies with $1B+ in annual rev reported an AI incident that led to data loss, financial damage, brand damage or operational disruptions. Major companies are now limiting employee AI usage. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/oct/13/ai-companies-rushed-workers-fallout

Evening gym is so much worse than lunchtime gym. Lunchtime gym is great. Everyone is there to do their workout and go. Evening gym has so many dudes who dragged their girlfriends there against their will. The vibe is terrible

It’s time to de-privatize the US government. “The problem is not just that privatization is often inefficient because it adds a nontransparent layer of profiteering on top of government functions. The problem is that government loses basic capacity.” https://prospect.org/2026/10/13/time-to-de-privatize-federal-government

We need to talk about how everyone's going rabid for the completely broken vibe-coded Photoshop clones when there are *already* perfectly good replacements out there for it.

#Krita, for a start, which I've not seen a single Photoshop feature it doesn't replicate—plus it's free and anti-AI. CMYK handling is a bit iffy, but at least it *has* CMYK editing (, unlike…)

#CSP, which is adequate if you're after the right subset of tools, though obviously as paid software I'm still wary about them deciding that a one-off payment for the desktop edition isn't profitable enough.

Nothing will make me lose respect for you faster

Getting extremely fuckin sick of people going "here's some claudeslop, i know nothing about it and it's your problem now"

Oh, right, caveat: you almost certainly will not lose weight by doing this. And, if you're trying to add weight lifting into an ongoing weight loss plan, you will probably have a bad time. I think lifting will improve how you feel about your body, but the number on the scale in not gonna go down while you're starting out lifting. I recommend taking a conscious break from your diet for a couple of months, if you're dieting. Focus on getting enough protein, rather than few enough calories.

Related: eat more protein. If you're more than a little sore the next day, your first thought should be more protein. It's critical for recovery

If that sounds good and you want to do it too, I recommend Liftoff: Couch to Barbell https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/fbc087c8-c03a-454c-9658-8dba3578de01

And i guess if you wanted a toot-length guide:
Romainian deadlift
Squat
Overhead shoulder press
Bent over row

Start with zero weight. Lookup videos on form. Get used to hinging at the hip, in particular. Do 1 set of 5, two days per week. Every week or two, add a set, and/or weight. 3 sets of 5 is the most you should do. Start easy, you'll make rapid progress. The most important thing is to not hurt yourself and not be painfully sore the next day.

And that's it. Over the course of 10-12 weeks you'll work up to using 15 and 20 pound dumbbells in these movements, and spending 60-90 minutes on it per week. You'll feel better and move easier. If you enjoy it for its own sake, keep going. If not, just maintain at that level.
