If you’ve noticed chocolate getting more expensive lately, you’re not alone. Prices have surged due to rising cocoa costs, driven by bad weather, crop diseases, and underinvestment in cocoa farms—especially in West Africa, which supplies 80% of the world’s cocoa.

🔸 In South Africa, the price of an 80g chocolate slab jumped 17% year-on-year, reaching R22.48 in Feb 2024.
🔸 A standard 48g chocolate bar went up 21.43% over two years, from R11.90 to R14.45.

These increases are putting pressure on both chocolate lovers and businesses. As cocoa prices remain high, we may see even more hikes ahead.
