I am really, really sick and tired how sexual abuse has become part of the daily conversation the last few years, without any actual meaningful action to combat it.
I survived assault as a child and several attempts later in life. It's not fun to be reminded of it every single day.
Some conversation around it is important, but it should be accompanied by accountability and concrete action. Neither is happening. This creates new trauma, and I'm far from the only one to experience this.
And yes, this laissez-faire attitude comes from the US. Europe isn't much better in its response but the conversation was different. I do not understand how we allow for this.
The Amy Acton story just got to me. My 'mother' (unworthy of the title), who washed the blood soaked sheets, also denied what happened. I did not need that trigger today.
