Google just really really really likes getting money from scammers and refused to take this down.

#OpenStreetMap wiki pages you didn't know about https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapping_accidents

@amapanda could we perhaps put a rule in place that disallows bot postings with the #OpenStreetMap hashtag.

With other words reserve it for communications from humans. The people that like to blanket spam the tag can still announce that they are running a bot allowing opt in for interested parties.

And there's a corresponding peak in the monthly edits

Enough gloom and doom for now.

I just updated the #OpenStreetMap contributor stats at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Stats#Contributor_statistics_reports for Q2 2026. And yes, we have an all time high in monthly contributors, surpassing the likely pandemic driven peak in early 2021. And next month might be even better.

Dog-fooding the upcoming @vespucci_editor download along a linear feature, for example an #OpenStreetMap way, functionality.

This https://youtu.be/kH_bSvf7EVA is something for #OpenStreetMap to nerd out about. @standupmaths

Ok we now know what google thinks "limited distribution" is ..... 20 installs/devices.

That is completely useless.

#OpenStreetMap

Just your regular reminder that the @linuxfoundation Overture maps tool chains (aka the code to produce their data) are not #opensource software.

I suppose I should have mentioned @notjustbikes (just re-watched the video on cycle infrastructure in Swiss cities a couple of days back). The Stadttunnel https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/de/mobilitaet/velo/velomassnahmen/stadttunnel.html at least moves things in the right direction.

BTW (open since yesterday) ...

People contributing to #OpenStreetMap expect the geodata they create and edit to be public, not their sleeping habits.

#OpenStreetMap

Regular PSA: the @linuxfoundation Overture Maps toolchain is proprietary.

Let that sink in.

#opensource

Note that while the Parquet files can be opened with QGis it is rather crashy.

The main difference to #OpenStreetMap in the areas nearby that I've checked is that it seems to have more offices, something which has only recently has started being on the OSM radar (and of which the importance is a bit debatable).

But looks like a good (particularly compared to the LInux Foundation data) QA dataset in any case.

Currently a big WTF because of https://location.foursquare.com/resources/blog/products/foursquare-open-source-places-a-new-foundational-dataset-for-the-geospatial-community/ obviously Foursquare releasing the data is a good thing, but Apache 2.0 is not a data licence and IMNALO it is totally unclear how it should be applied. Not even considering compatibility as an inbound license with other licenses that are typically used for data.

Ping @luis_in_brief in case you've not seen the announcement.
