running the import into snac... hopefully all goes well.
Next up I plan to migrate my personal mastodon instance (currently on Masto.host) to #snac . No idea how it’s going to go though.
Anyone here did this particular migration ? I want to change my Fediverse account to be santi@go.lema.org because it’s kinda cool.
It would make more sense to use goto social with that subdomain but I like snac !
So installed prosody on my small personal instance and finally run my own #XMPP server. This was surprisingly simple and seems pretty lightweight . Well I don’t know if I did it right 😅 but it seems to work.
You can reach me on XMPP with santiago@lema.@org just like my email.
Is there any native fast Mastodon app that is snappy on a slow Linux machine ? On a Pi4 on XFCE I use Tokodon for lack of a better option but I feel like every click feels a tad sluggish.
I mean without going to a terminal app.

I remember a time when autocorrect was very helpful to learn languages. Like I’d mistakenly type in a French word and it’d say “no this does not exist but there’s this one which is proper English”.
Then “intelligence” appeared.
And apparently the current dev of BeAim made that server the default :-/ To be fair it’s probably the most popular one.
That’s the sad part about retro computing. It also attracts people with retro ideas (in a bad sense).
Wait the https://phoenixim.ddns.net/phoenix/index.php?action=compat server has an old school JavaScript scroller… that spits Infowars content ??? 🤦🏻♂️
Also the development of BeAim for Haiku is very active these days !
Guess I’ll have to install it on my machine tomorrow.

TIL people out there run alternative AIM servers. Also compatible with (unencrypted!) Adium on old Macs.
(Edited removed link to server, see replies)
This here will let you run your own ICQ server.

Finally managed to watch the Brutalist. Luckily we started at 18:00. It definitely could have been shorter…
I am too tired to comment on how uncomfortable I feel with the mix of real events with history and fictional characters treated in a biopic manner.

I forget who joked about pronouncing "demoscenes" as if it were the name of a greek god but that has lived rent free in my head ever since

But it’s nicer on a CRT scope.
Some recent Chrome update has started forcing people who sign into Google Apps or Workspaces or whatever to associate a Chrome profile with that account.
This bit me recently and now it’s bitten my wife; her personal Chrome profile has been replaced as default with her nursing school college account and she didn’t know how to change back and thought she’d lost a huge amount of work.
Like…just let people browse the web, good lord. It’s absurd.
The word “liturgy” derives from the Ancient Greek “leitourgia” meaning “public service.” In Athens and the areas under its control, liturgy was the duty of the richest citizens to fully fund the state at their own expense.
The logic was that the wealthy enjoyed their wealth due to the protection of the state and the stability it provided.
