I was annoyed that the swiss government closed down their mastodon server, so I've made @swissgov that gets the English RSS feed from https://news.admin.ch and posts it.
I've now added @swissgovDE for German, @swissgovfr for French and @swissgovit for Italian.
I made my own @delta relay https://delta.existiert.ch

Seems like I've been blocked by some people because I've been posting corrections to posts made about Proton Mail:
I've moved away from Proton because of the posts of their CEO and no longer will give them any money and I've set up a solution for myself that makes me able to quickly move mail providers if need be.
I posted those corrections because I live in Switzerland, work for the Swiss Government, and am interested in Swiss laws and treaties with other countries, not to advertise for Proton
With self hosting for me the biggest worry still is: How will I noticed if something is wrong? Not "not running" wrong but "someone else has access" wrong. So I'm happy about any advice the Professionals can give here! :) 7/7
With having a proxmox server and an understanding about docker, self hosting exploded for me. Trying out lots of different things that I could use, removing them again, making subdomains to access them from the outside. Fun times. Still fun times! But in the last year it became more focused on the things I actually use and optimizing and hardening them to how I want them. Reading up on security guidelines and best practices. 6/7
At this point I am still using Portainer to put my containers up, and understanding how compose works was big. I'm still learning here, but at least I'm certified for it on LinkedIn now XD
Side-note: It's still super fun to learn "beginner" stuff. Until last week I did not know how to merge something in GitHub or that I can use SSH to use a nice file explorer (like Filezilla) to copy stuff around on a remote server. Embarrassing, I know! But at least I'm learning it now after 20 years in IT! 5/7
After that I bought my own small computer with lots of RAM and set it up as Proxmox host to run some test servers. It was surprisingly easy to understand once I wrapped my head around the UI Logic. But that made me need to get used and learn another Technology: Docker.
With Marius tutorials it was very focused on getting stuff up and running, but now it was more about understanding it so I can translate it to my own server. 4/7
He get's a lot of flack for not providing info about WHY it works the way he explains it (basically the same flack I give Yunohost now :D ) but it's an super easy way to entry. After some time with that I tried to understand how DNS works since I - on a whim - bought my own domain because of a joke. And I love existiert.ch now! So now I got into DNS, finally understanding what a reverse proxy does and how basically most of the websites get served. Opened a whole world for me! 3/7
Step 1: I got a Synology NAS. I really liked the apps it offered and was using it as my private cloud. Not yet with direct access, but with a VPN that I had active on my Router at home.

Next step would be: How can I manage all of this, as a start with scripts, what would I have to do to "deploy a script for different users on the same pc as root" or stuff like that. More down the line than what software is used to do that centrally? And important for this: I'm not looking for integrations into an MS environment, it should all be Linux specific and if possible completely OSS.

I'm currently at a "user level" of knowledge on Linux. I run Nobara since half a year as my only private PC and have experience with different distributions on servers, but all the knowledge is very shallow.
Now the questions I have: Basically how does the client work is the most important part for me: Structures, folders, logic why it works at all, how it works, what interactions are on the client itself between users and system, etc. 4/5
Network side I know less and mostly older information. Don't ask me anything about IPv6 for example, but I've learned the OSI model, I've set up networks myself and know the basics, but I wouldn't claim to be able to do it professionally. On Servers I've managed SMS, SCCM and Intune so I also got some Azure knowledge, but it's limited. 3/5
On MS I've been a software packager for most of my work life and know the ins and outs and interactions between the file-system, registry, where user data and system data is saved, the different standard users and groups, how to manage users - even centrally, how policies work, where to find logs, standard folders of Windows and most MS and other Apps, how to run scripts as system account... so pretty much everything that is client specific. 2/5
