Going through a let’s say economically challenging patch right now but if I had the money to burn I would set this up

This is absolute genius https://github.com/arnegiacomo/fugleramme

Vercel sounds like a boner pill

We don’t fricking deserve Ukraine

Short summary is probably this: if Claude says it won’t translate your blog post because it’s a violently racist mental turd, one possible reaction is to lean back in your chair and say ”huh” and maybe do some introspection. But he didn’t, and he won’t, and nothing I can write is going to change that. But Ruby as an ecosystem is bigger than mr HH.

I can’t make every other blog post ”DHH is a massive fuckass and this is why” because it’ll seem like I think about him all the time and I promise I don’t. But he keeps showing his entire ass on the Internet and as a rubyist it’s hard to let that slide. Currently trying to suppress my emotions

This, to me, is absolutely mental. People actually put up with that sort of thing in their day job??

This article is long but amazing https://harpers.org/archive/2026/03/childs-play-sam-kriss-ai-startup-roy-lee/

You just KNOW the orange freak is going to take to the cameras to tell everyone it’s because of him

I don’t think I can take double US hockey gold medals

It also feels like it's targeting the wrong thing. A far more common issue is "how do I split God Models into more manageable chunks". While something like @kaspth 's AssociatedObject feels a lot more natural and OO, there's a missing piece of infrastructure where you just move some related functions and constants into their own file and call it something like User::Authentication or Image::Sizing or whatever. No expectation of having to share it with other classes.

I have kind of an ick around Rails concerns. I understand why they're put in a folder and named the way they are, but having "Commentable" lying around in a "concerns" folder just gives me... well, I don't know. It's the same sort of blechh I get looking at "helpers" I guess, just feels like a grab-bag of random hard-to-test shit.

David Hamburger Helper is strangely silent despite his country of origin being threatened with invasion by his new favorite dudes. Really boggles the mind to imagine someone looking at the world in the 2020s and telling themselves ”no, you know what, the REAL issue is blue haired feminists who tell me I can’t use the n-word anymore”

This is the mic drop piece on the rubygems fiasco. If you have to read something about it, this is it. Doesn’t matter what you think about how much André was paid for his work, or whether Shopify needs a SBOM or whatever. Ruby Central screwed the pooch severely on this, and I’m not sure it can be un-screwed.

DHH has gone off the rails https://johan.hal.se/wrote/2025/09/26/david-please-stop-posting/

I'm going to shut my face for a while, at least on here. https://johan.hal.se/wrote/2025/02/18/pressing-pause/

I always feel awful after reading LinkedIn though. A few short minutes is enough to make me feel like absolute shit and I'm not even sure why. It might be the bragging, it might be the language, it might be the weirdly inauthentic reactions to posts... I don't know exactly what it is, it just leaves me queasy in a very particular way. It's like I'm showing up to a really stiff formal dinner party wearing a novelty Pippi Longstocking outfit.

I was caught on camera on a LinkedIn update today. Hoping IFK Göteborg can pull themselves out of the doldrums we've been languishing in for the last near-decade https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7270024537021296640/

I finally wrote a Considered Harmful post. Cross that mfer off the bucket list, then https://johan.hal.se/wrote/2024/11/19/turbo-considered-harmful/

Petition to start calling it ”LubeSky” instead because we all know what’s coming
