This is long for on here, but the reasoning seems sound to me?
Haven't really done the podcast thing fora while. Used to like Planet Money. My kiddo has played me a few episodes of The Magnus Archive, so I'm starting there. And I suppose I could revisit Greater Than Code. Any recommendations?
Also, these kids have a *very* different relationship to time than I do. They'll be all "well, we have nine minutes until the next train arrives; let's go explore the town" or "okay, I've booked the flight; let's see if we can make it to the gate before they close the doors." #JetLagTheGame
I fell off a skateboard six weeks ago today, breaking (as I eventually discovered) two ribs. I've been watching a LOT of #JetLagTheGame while benched.
I'll probably never travel outside North America again, but... if I do, this show has taught me one very important lesson: do not, under any circumstances, trust #DeutscheBahn to get me anywhere on time. Or, possibly, at all.
"We got Deutsche Bahn'd so hard they broke out the emergency rations."
Recruiter emailed about a job description that included this bullet point: "The ability to write a TDD that a staff peer trusts and a product lead can understand."
I've been practicing test-driven development for 20+ years.
If this toot were an image, I'd be zooming in tighter and tighter until you could see pixels:
- "The ability to write a TDD."
- "Write a TDD."
- "a TDD"
"Weep for the future, Na'Toth. Weep for us all." -G'Kar (Babylon 5, S2E2 "Revelations")
Hot take: a device with a USB-C port should be capable of charging via a USB-C cable. "We OnLy AcCePt 5 VoLtS at 1 AmP" is grounds for a full refund, no questions asked.

Also, this framing is *so* revealing. It's like people who can't understand why atheists would act morally: it basically says "I'm only ✌️good✌️ because I fear punishment."
Regardless of whether that punishment comes from a legal system or a Sky Daddy, the result is the same: a person who should under no circumstances be trusted to make a moral decision.

I'm not holding my breath.
Reasons why I am extremely popular, #76262045:
"THE PEOPLE! UNITED! WILL NEVER BE DIVI... I'm sorry, have you ever even *heard of* people?"
(Gonna go do some milling and thronging because "use it or lose it," but the actual marching wears me out—and not just physically, so I'll skate home.) #NoKings

FedEx out here just:

That e-skate I ordered on Wednesday the 18th? Woke up to an email with a scheduled delivery date of... Wednesday the 25th (CA -> OR, though admittedly across almost all of both states, ~1k miles). But clicking through to the tracking details shows a scheduled delivery date of Monday. It's like someone vibe-coded an entire company.
Ordered an all-terrain electric skateboard (EDIT: the Veymax Nymph; it is: SO PINK) on Tuesday morning and have been checking my email compulsively: has it shipped yet? How about now? How about now?
Finally saw an email, got super excited, opened it up to see "some items in your order are on the way", clicked through... and it's just the spare parts I wanted to make sure I had on hand: tire, inner tubes, drive belts, bearings.
Thinking about compact personal EVs again. I suspect I'd really like an all-weather mountain board, but between AI slop and generally busted web search, they're impossible to research. So instead I'm looking at the OneWheel and going "those look fun"...

Reposting question from the weekend, with a #BeatSaber hashtag because why not
I realize this is extremely niche, but does anybody in/near PDX happen to have (or know someone who has) a VR setup suitable for recording mixed-reality Beat Saber videos? I think it would be kinda fun to see what the combined view from inside and outside the goggles looks like, but there's quite a lot of room between "kinda fun" and "several thousand dollars of hardware and a green screen" even if I had somewhere to put it...
E: "I found your remote! Where would you like me to put it?"
Me: "On the coffee table, please. Where was it?"
E: "On the coffee table! I'll try to put it in a slightly more prominent location."
If anyone needs me, I will be: deceased #ADHD
Quick update for those of you who followed me on the hellsite back in the day and miss those #tinygoth posts!
The kiddo is 17 now, a senior in high school, and has a Special Interest in animal bones. There is a roadkill collection kit in my car at all times. Here's an index card I found on the crafting table in the living room. (NB: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baculum)
