As Reuters notes, the 2026 midterms are the most expensive election cycle in U.S. history, with about $11.21 billion spent on ads alone. That’s slightly higher than the total spending in 2024, which amounted to $11.2 billion. Super PACs allow wealthy people to dump an enormous amount of money into American elections and the ruling class has been happy to put its finger on the scales.

2) Created a Peertube channel that reposted the BC Green Party’s pre-election campaign videos to the Fedi for folks that can’t or won’t use the corporate platforms.

3) Voted. (In both the provincial & municipal elections)

Well, I’m not surprised but obviously I’m disappointed in BC: voters chose to ‘send a message’ to Premiere Eby and by doing so signed us all up for four years of MAGA-adjacent, chaos, incompetence and cruelty.

My heart goes out to the LGBTQ2IA+, BIPOC, disabled, unhoused, low-income and other vulnerable folks who are going to bear a disproportionate share of the weight of this decision.

My heart breaks for the continued, accelerated destruction of our beautiful environment, and for the people who will lose their homes, businesses, and lives to the climate catastrophes that we’ve locked-in for future generations.

I’m sure the billionaires are pleased, though. 🫤

So far I’m impressed with bunny.net as a non-US alternative to Cloudflare. My biggest worry was cost, given that I’m operating on a shoestring budget, but so far it seems completely manageable.

The service is reliable, the interface is super-professional, and the communication from the company is clear & transparent. It’s based in the EU (Slovenia) and is GDPR-compliant.

I’ve got another week or so to decide if I want to transition all my services over there but at this point it’s looking very positive.
