i guess i need to do this and add a bunch of explainey shit that i do not take the side of Ed Sheeran by saying this, nor do i take the side of Robert Kraft, but it's a hard deal breaker to take the side of Macklemore just because this very white boy says all of the right things in regard to Palestinians.
this is not an "i refuse to stand on the side of justice" stance so much as a "fuck everyone involved in this media spectacle, let's get back to actually supporting the Palestinians we say we care about" stance. media spectacles don't provide material support to people surviving a genocide that has been escalating since 1948.
i don't even like talking about celebrities this much, mostly cause i think 99% of them are inconsiderate owning class shitheads all involved in the same circle jerk whether they'll say it or not, and this is yet another example. i've said "kill yr rockstars" before and i'll say it many times more.
yesterday, i saw someone put all of this together much better than i could given my very shattered mental health. but here it is again.
in 2014, Macklemore wore a costume that was very much a racist anti-Jewish caricature, and was also photographed doing a nazi salute while wearing this costume. the "apology" he gave for doing this was very much the usual white non-apology, with all of the "i'm not racist", "sorry if you were hurt", "i didn't intend it to be racist" excuses. ADL accepted his "apology", but ADL has its own problem of supporting Israel and all of its anti-Semitic violence, including humiliating those who practise traditional Jewish culture with extreme prejudice, and destroying synagogues.
Seth Rogen accurately called out Macklemore's costume as "a shopping list to put together an anti-Semitic costume".
when talking about Palestinian justice, it is always important to remember that beating down on Jewish people is still racist, and that most Jewish people in the world are not Zionists, are very much on the side of justice for Palestinians, and do not want Israel acting in their name.
you can find a similar kind of behaviour in people like Tucker Carlson who, while he makes some pro-Palestinian noises, hopes you don't notice all of the anti-Jewish hatred that comes out of him but isn't as loudly broadcast.
everyone who backed out of Ed Sheeran's tour is doing the right thing, but all of the wrong people are getting the attention, and the spotlight is instead on a Zionist, a rich and popular coward, and a guy who dressed like a racist cartoon in a nazi propaganda poster and said "oops, sorry lol" as an apology, instead of on ending Israeli apartheid.
