Coming week we are again starting our post-apocalyptic nordic LARP "Spielplatz Endzeit".

Seven people and one dog will hike from Czechia to Austria without accessing any electrical power or information infrastructure. One their journey they will stage a hyperlocal internet with modulated visible light to chat, share memes, and play multiplayer video games.

When we ferment, we work with microbes on their time. Some ferments are quick - lactoferments with vegetables in brine. Some take a week and get tastier with time, such as kimchi or kraut. For making miso, we needed to slow down.

Koji has already been a challenge. We grew the spores, keeping them at the right temperature for two days. Then, we added protein - soybeans and chickpeas - stuffed the paste into clean jars, and the wait began. Our alarms are set for next July, but it’ll be worth it!

Today I learned about this!

It's the first accurate image of a black hole, created by astrophysicist Jean-Pierre Luminet in 1978, using an IBM 7040 computer with punch cards and plotting it out by hand with India ink.

I didn't know that Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide was originally released as a radio play and only later in bookform. First broadcast in 1978 on the public radio station BBC 4 & thats what I am listening to at the moment. The author apparently also came up with the name while lying in a field in Innsbruck in Austria, not too far from where I am sitting right now.

One of my favourite albums as a little kid was Giant Robot by Buckethead. I never heard something so lovingly strange before. The funky, clownish, noisy, dark and sweet tracks are sprinkled with tiny radio plays. You're visiting a toy store selling wax horse teeth, an amusement park with a crazed tour guide, and some very concerning creatures, of which Buckethead is one. It also stars Iggy Pop as a horrifying stalker clerk. Inbetween a lot of virtous guitar noodling.

Oddly enough we got to talking about #prepping last night & what stuck with me was this weird idea that having food & water for 3-4 days will save you & your family 🤔 that's also a wildly spoiled & unrealistic idea of a crisis as something somebody else will fix in less than a week, while you triumphantly drink your bottled water & everyone else can just fuck off.

The only thing that'll work in a crisis is community. Everything else is a power fantasy.
