#Debconf26 story time: We are usually doing photos with attendee shirts from all the years. Some years it's harder to find people that bring along the shirt. Debconf12 in Nicaragua was such a year. The other day a young woman walked into the eating place, wearing the shirt. I was surprised, because that was 14 years ago, so I asked her about it. so many reasons that this is fucking genius, but all of them feel too reddit in the vein of "hmmm it seems you made an intellectual fallacy" to enumerate.

I think what I really like, though, is that this person -- like most delusional people -- is just really trying to pick apart a concept that they just don't get which is much larger than the thing they're mad about.

Im getting like, a whole metaphysics from this post. Something like: Words have pronunciations, and thus those pronunciations "exist" in some third, objective, pseudo-platonic space, away from the speaker and listener. this is the same for everything: there is an objective reality which our subjective reality "SHOULD" (even they use this word, with it's emphasis and uncertainty) reflect.

What's neat is that this "décalage" (not trying to be pretentious, I'm sorry, I just don't know a good word in English) between this "correct version" and "experienced version" of things is, like, a conspiracy, from what I can gather: "a societal delusion", "like everyone in society". Other people are doing this on purpose, and people like their son are just sort of "groomed" (ew) or caught in the crossfire.

So, these things and people that don't reflect their platonic selves aren't necessarily doing it intentionally (or maybe they are ; they use "can't he see what he is doing to me" and also these people are being "gaslit" and "groomed", so jury's out).

I guess I just find it interesting. The chudliness of just loudly insisting that you are the only one who sees objective reality and because your subjective experience doesn't align with that perceived "should be", everyone else must be in on some cruel joke or conspiracy.

Though, I do have to give them credit because when I lived in America, I did basically always have a big fucking jar of great value picked jalapenos and I'd eat em right out of the jar. Fucking delicious.

Furthermore: It’s okay for software to not be updated with new features, as long as it doesn’t have known security holes.

It’s not a bad thing to have something that doesn’t change, even if modern software developers would like you to think that you NEED a constant stream of “feature updates” and “redesigns”.
