I hope the new 2027 Congress takes a good, hard look at these concerns about Elon Musk and his unacceptable level of control over US foreign policy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIAEH_q-eWA #uspol

@sj But will it come with antigravity cup holders?

The local Catholic newspaper just announced three deaths from a couple of very progressive female religious orders. It feels like they are declaring an end of an era: The 1960's are over. Today's Catholic just wants good liturgy and faithful preaching. #Catholic

Happy Columbus Day!

I’ve posted this before but uh..

Do you know you can use Mastodon (or any other Fedi software) also as private server for you and your friends?

By simply turning off federation and making everything private you can turn a public federated server into a private replacement for big tech chat apps for example

My two best friends and me have one for some time now where we keep in toch and share our lives with each other♥️

Let's not forget socialism and communism trend toward the ill of political capital. Certain persons gain and exploit political and bureaucratic position to exploit the public and gain meaningful control of land, capital, and other resources for private gain. Such systems tend to degrade into fascism unless tempered by other systems in a mixed economy.

There's no one right mix in a mixed economy. It varies by culture, technology, and time. On a cold day, you need a coat. On a rainy day you need an umbrella. The system should be dynamic and NOT based on any ideology (including socialism), taking what we need from any particular system on a given time & discarding what doesn't work. #economics #uspol #eupol

A couple of points about the propaganda linked below:

1. Rental property is not capitalism. The early capitalists despised landlords because they took without producing. That was feudalism. OP needs to understand, in a mixed economy, not everything is capitalism, and the truth is that mercantilism and feudalism still have significant impact on our current world.

2. The labor of capitalists is "organizing labor." It requires some degree of financial risk and work to combine the right material with the right labor to seek a market for a product or service.

3 (Bonus). The worse abuses come from the queer combination of systems we have today that are NOT any one thing, but are conveniently abused by many (most) ultra wealthy people.

Where does the desire to survive come from? Not just in humans; nearly all life. Almost every living thing tries to survive. I'm thinking about this as a proxy for #AI. If mechanisms other than evolution give things an incentive to survive, could those find their ways into AI models? The best example I thought of is organizations' bias toward survival. Especially bureaucratic organizations. #philosophy

I fixed my computer this morning. CMOS battery died. This is a NUC computer, so it was a pain. And now my computer reports 0* temperature. Did this happen because... #askfedi #techsupport #Linux

"I have nothing to hide."

False.

You have medical history

You have financial behavior

You have location patterns

You have political views

You have relationship data

Privacy was never about hiding crimes. It was always about owning your life.

Your cars are spying on you. (Yes, we already knew it but there's a new study now)

My internet experience is #RSS #Mastodon, and sometimes #Lemmy. This is the better web.

I went to the Beatification of Fulton Sheen yesterday and everywhere I went my brain was triggered: "There's someone I know! There's someone else I know!" But, with a few exceptions, they were not people I know. I have just become so habituated to seeing large families that dress modestly as being "my people" that my brain blows up with "friend" signals every time I see someone as such. #Catholic
